India expressed concern
India’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmoy Das and has asked Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all minorities. The statement issued by the Government of India said that we have expressed deep concern over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and denial of bail. The incident comes after several attacks on Hindus and other minorities by violent elements in Bangladesh. There are several reported cases of arson and looting of minority houses and business establishments as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples.”
The MEA’s statement emphasized that the Indian government is deeply disturbed by the recurring incidents of targeted violence against minorities in Bangladesh. These attacks have included arson, looting, vandalism of businesses and homes, and the desecration of Hindu deities and temples. Such incidents have caused significant distress among the minority communities, highlighting the deteriorating conditions for these groups in the country
.
India’s concern is not limited to the specific case of Chinmoy Krishna Das. The recent spate of attacks on Hindus and other minority communities has raised alarm about their safety and security in Bangladesh. The Indian government has urged Bangladesh to take immediate steps to ensure the protection of its minority populations, stressing that such acts of violence and intolerance should be prevented, and those responsible should be held accountable
.
While the Bangladesh government has made some efforts to address these concerns, including reassurances from officials about the protection of minorities, the persistence of such attacks has led to widespread anxiety. The Indian government has consistently called for stronger measures to safeguard the rights and safety of all minority communities in Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of maintaining communal harmony in the region.
The issue underscores broader concerns about religious and ethnic tensions in the South Asian region, with minority groups often caught in the crossfire of political and social unrest. India has consistently advocated for the rights of religious minorities abroad, including in Bangladesh, and has called on the international community to ensure that the protection of minorities is prioritized in all national and international policies
criminals roaming freely
The Ministry of External Affairs further said in the statement “It is unfortunate that the perpetrators of these incidents are still roaming free, while charges are being leveled against a religious leader who presented legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings.” The ministry also expressed concern about attacks on Hindus protesting against the arrest of the religious leader.
