According to the news of news portal ‘bdnews24.com’, a bench of Justice A.K.M. Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Inayat Hussain accepted Zia’s appeal and overturned the lower court’s conviction. At the same time, Daily Star said in its news that the Anti-Corruption Commission had registered a corruption case in Tejgaon police station in 2011, in which Jiya and three others were accused of misusing power to raise money for the trust from unknown sources. High Court had increased the punishment from 5 to 10 years

The BNP chairperson was sent to the old Dhaka Central Jail on February 8, 2018, after being sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by a special court in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. On October 30, 2018, the High Court had increased his sentence to 10 years. He was later convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. Zia was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from March 1991 to March 1996 and again from June 2001 to October 2006.

Hindus accused of murder on lawyer’s death
