New Delhi: Electoral states change but the fate of Congress does not change. Congress first lost in Haryana. Now Maharashtra has also tasted defeat. Despite better performance in Lok Sabha elections, Congress’s condition is worse in Maharashtra. Even in alliance with Sharad Pawar’s NCP and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, Congress could not oust BJP from power. Mahavikas Aghadi flew away in the storm of Mahayuti. In Maharashtra elections, MVA was limited to only 50 seats. Voting took place in Maharashtra in one phase on 20 November. The results came on 23 November.
First of all let us know the results of Maharashtra. When the results came, leave aside Congress, even BJP itself was shocked. Mahayuti was hopeful of victory, but hardly anyone had thought that it would get such a massive victory. In Maharashtra elections, Mahayuti has won 234 out of 288 seats. BJP alone has hoisted the saffron flag on 132 seats and has become the single largest party. Shinde’s Shiv Sena managed to win 57 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP managed to win 41 seats. At the same time, Sharad Pawar’s NCP got 10 seats and Uddhav’s Shiv Sena got 20 seats. Congress was successful in winning only 16 seats.
Congress would never have imagined such a tragedy in Maharashtra.
It is a misfortune for Congress to win 16 seats even after fighting on more than 100 seats in Maharashtra. It was expected that the Congress-led MVA would take on the Mahayuti in the Maharashtra elections. But forget the competition, Congress and its allies could not even come close to Mahayuti. Experts say that the kind of hard work that Congress needed was not seen in Maharashtra. Rahul Gandhi also took Maharashtra lightly. This is the reason why his rallies also did not look like that. After the Haryana defeat, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership should have shown strength afresh in Maharashtra. But this was not seen in the entire election campaign. On the contrary, Congress remained busy fighting among its own people over seats.
Questions will be raised again on Rahul Gandhi
Now that after Haryana, Congress has lost in Maharashtra, questions will be raised on Rahul Gandhi and the central leadership. Even though the Congress Chief is Mallikarjun Kharge. But everyone knows that at present Rahul Gandhi is supreme. In such a situation, questions will be raised on the strike rate of Rahul Gandhi’s victory. Voices of protest will be heard from within the Congress itself. Once again the demand for reshuffle in the central leadership may arise and the G23 group may become active again. Experts believe that in hushed tones, Congress leaders have started blaming each other for the defeat.
Will G23 be active again?
Whenever Congress has lost in any state, the dissent group G23 has got a chance to speak. Now that Congress has suffered consecutive defeats in Haryana and Maharashtra, it can be expected that G23 will be active again. However, it is also a reality that this G23 group of dissatisfied leaders in Congress has now become weak. Kapil Sibal has left Congress. Ghulam Nabi Azad has also left Congress. Both of them were pillars of G23. In such a situation, after his departure, even G23 no longer has any strength. However, these election signs definitely indicate that there is going to be an uproar in the Congress.
