The Delhi High Court granted bail to middleman Christian Mitchell James in the AgustaWestland Money Laundering case of Rs 3600 crore. Justice Swarn Kant Sharma reserved the decision on the bail plea on 28 February. Earlier, on February 18, the Supreme Court granted bail to British citizen Mitchell in the CBI case related to the same case.
Investigation agencies have found irregularities in the purchase of 12 VVIP helicopters from Italian manufacturing company AgustaWestland. The CBI has claimed in the charge sheet that the government treasury suffered a loss of 398.21 million euros (about Rs 2666 crore) due to the 2010 helicopter deal.
At the same time, in June 2016, the ED charge sheet said that Mitchell received 30 million euros (about 225 crore rupees) from AgustaWestland. Mitchell was extradited from Dubai in December 2018. He has been in jail since then.
