Former Supreme Court judge Justice V Ramasubramaniam took over as chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday. Apart from him, Justice (Dr.) Vidyut Ranjan Sarangi took charge as member of NHRC.

The NHRC had appointed Ramasubramaniam as the new head of the human rights panel on December 23. This post was vacant since June this year. President Draupadi Murmu had appointed Justice Ramasubramaniam as the chairperson of NHRC under the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993.
