Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary told the House on Saturday that a private company has been fined Rs 80 lakh for illegal mining in Budgam district. The machines used in mining have also been seized.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that Budgam’s Mineral Officer (DMO) has taken strict action against Messrs NKC Projects Private Limited. This action has been taken after a video went viral on 2 March.

Chaudhary said that DMO Budgam deployed a team on the site on receiving the report from the Directorate of Geology and Mining. The investigation found that the company was mining without permits.

After this, the project manager of the company was issued a notice and directed to close all illegal mining activities and submit relevant documents.

The body was burnt and thrown into the forest of Raigad. Indrani’s ex -husband and media veteran Peter Mukherjee is also accused in the case. The murder came to light in 2015 when driver Shyamwar Rai spoke about the murder after his arrest in another case.

Indrani and Khanna were arrested in August 2015. Three months later, Peter Mukherjee was arrested. At present, all the accused are on bail. The hearing of the case began in February 2017 after all the charges were framed. There are 237 witnesses from the prosecution. Out of this, more than 90 have appeared in the court.
