Google may have to sell its Chrome web browser. The company has been found guilty of violating anti-trust rules, due to which major action can be taken. The US Department of Justice may put pressure on Google’s parent company Alphabet to sell the Chrome web browser. However, this matter is still pending in the court. According to Bloomberg’s report, Alphabet may be asked to separate the business of its web browser Chrome and Android operating system. After this Google can make its web browser stand alone.

What is the matter?

Actually, this pressure on Google can be created due to a decision taken in August regarding violation of anti-trust rules. If the Department of Justice puts pressure on the judge in the court to take action against Google, then it can take major action against the tech company. In August, the court had said in its decision that Google has taken unfair advantage of its monopoly in the search and advertising market, which proves that the company is a monopolist and has worked to maintain its monopoly.

Google’s monopoly

At present, apart from Android mobile operating system, Google also has services like Google Chrome browser and AI Gemini. The company shows targeted advertisements to users using its Google search algorithm. Talking about Google Chrome browser, it has 65 percent share. After this Apple Safari has 21 percent market share. The share of other browsers including Firefox is quite less. The main reason for the increasing share of Google Chrome is the Android operating system. Most of the users in the world use smartphones with Android operating system, in which Google Chrome remains as the default browser.

Google will be shocked by the court’s decision

According to the report, the court can order Google to separate its Android OS, Google Play Mobile and other services. At present, in all Android smartphones, users have to sign in with their Google account. Only after this they can download any app through Google Play Store. Once you log in to your Google account, you automatically log in to all the Google services available on your phone. Taking advantage of this, Google has established a monopoly on its advertising business.
