This is the time and date when Naxalites blasted a vehicle loaded with DRG soldiers in Bijapur district. In this, 8 soldiers and one driver were martyred. This is the first biggest Naxalite attack of the year 2025.

On the road from which the force was returning, 60 kg IED had been laid 3 years ago. This IED was under the command of Naxalites. That means it could be operated by staying nearby and pressing a button. This is what happened.

The force was on operation in Abujhmad since January 4. The force also got success in the operation. On January 4, 5 Naxalites were killed by the force in Abujhmad area. Many weapons were also recovered from them. After the search operation, these forces were returning to their respective places.

STF and DRG teams from Narayanpur, Bastar, Kondagaon and Dantewada were involved in this operation. The soldiers who were martyred were from Dantewada team.

After the blast, weapons of the soldiers were also thrown, which were collected.

DRG soldiers were the target

DRG i.e. District Reserve Guard was the target of this Naxal attack on Monday. At present, the biggest enemies of Naxalites are the DRG soldiers, because they are causing the most damage. Under a scheme in DRG, the government started recruiting local youth. That means the youth from Kondagaon district will remain in the team of Kondagaon, the youth from Dantewada will remain in Dantewada only. Apart from this, the Naxalites who surrender are also taken into DRG.

Since these teams are familiar with the local language, dialect, geographical conditions and tactics of Naxalites, they are put forward. Their intelligence is also strong, which helps STF and other forces fighting against Naxalites. For this reason DRG is the biggest enemy of Naxalites at this time.

A campaign is going on to free Bastar from Naxalites by 2026. More than 200 Naxalites have been killed in this in the last one year. The force has entered till Abujhmad. This has been possible because of DRG.

The road was built 10 years ago, repairing work was done 3 years ago

This road from Kutru to Bedre was built 10 years ago. It was an asphalt road. The road was washed away due to heavy rains 3 years ago. Both the road and the bridge were uprooted. During this period, road repair work was carried out here. This IED was planted at the same time. When Bhaskar’s team reached ground zero, some people from nearby villages were found there. He told that IEDs have been planted at various places here. Till three-four years ago, Naxalites used to plant IEDs on every road where work was going on. For this reason, the force used to check even before constructing the road. Such IEDs are still lying at many places. The force keeps getting this from time to time.

Parts of the vehicle and dead bodies were found 500 meters away.

The explosion was so powerful that the remains of the vehicle and the soldiers’ clothes were blown away. The driver’s body was broken into so many pieces that it was difficult to even find his body. The dead body and vehicle parts were found lying within a radius of about 500 meters from the spot. Pieces of dead bodies also fell in the river, which the soldiers took out.

After the blast, a 10 feet crater was left on the road.

Naxalites knew from where Dantewada team would return

The Naxalites were already aware of the route by which the force that had gone for the encounter would return. For this reason, Naxalites were already present at the place where the IED was planted on Kutru-Bedre road.

The Naxalites had come to know that the soldiers had changed their route after the encounter. They will cross the Indravati river and return via Bedre and then Kutru. Whenever soldiers go on any operation in Bastar, they generally rarely return through the same route.

There were Dantewada DRG and STF teams in 12 vehicles. Naxalites targeted vehicle number 11. There were 9 people in it including the driver. All were from DRG. All were martyred.

Wherever the Naxalites have laid IED, they are aware of it and they keep sharing this information with other Naxalites whenever they change their place. This is the reason why they were able to hit the target accurately with the IED planted three years ago.

Soldiers were on ROP duty

DRG and CRPF personnel were on search operation in the area. The job of the road opening party is to see that there is no danger. After this the team from behind comes forward. RPO soldiers were standing nearby on both sides of the road.

Naxalites were already sitting in ambush about 300 to 400 meters from the road. But they did not fire on the force before the blast, because their target was only the vehicle loaded with soldiers.

Meanwhile, 10 vehicles filled with soldiers passed one after the other and the 11th vehicle was hit by an IED by the Maoists. Due to which the glass of vehicle number 12 was also broken. However, the soldiers and driver on board are safe.

The vehicle was destroyed by the Naxalites’ IED blast.

When the blast occurred, the Naxalites fired for 4 to 5 minutes to divert the attention of the soldiers and run away from there. Hearing the sound of the explosion, the vehicles in front also stopped. ROP took charge along with the soldiers on duty and responded to the bullets of Naxalites. When information about the incident was received in Kutru and Bedre camps, backup parties started arriving.

The bomb was planted in 6 trees, a bridge and the joint of an asphalt-CC road.

Naxalites planted the IED about 50 meters away from the bridge where the CC road ended and the asphalt road started. The place in between was chosen. There were 6 to 7 trees in the round. With this it was easy for the Naxalites to understand where the IED was.

IED wires were connected just before the incident

Naxalites had planted the IED 3 years ago, but the wire to blast it was connected on Sunday night. In Bastar, Naxalites have so far blown up force vehicles following this pattern. They do the wiring a day in advance so that no one gets a chance to understand.

A day before the incident, 5 Naxalites were killed

In fact, just a day before the IED blast incident, 1 thousand soldiers from 4 districts including Dantewada, Jagdalpur, Narayanpur had launched a major operation. In which 5 Maoists were killed. However, a Dantewada police constable was also martyred in the encounter.

This is the seat of the car and the broken mobile phone of a soldier which was thrown about 150 feet away after the blast.

The exact same incident happened in April 2022

In fact, in April 2022 also, Naxalites had blasted a Toofan vehicle loaded with soldiers in a similar manner by blasting an IED in Dantewada. In which 10 soldiers and one driver were martyred. The soldiers had gone on operation from the same area in the same four-wheeler.

We are low level soldiers. We do whatever the officers say. We never like to go in big vehicles to travel to and from the operation. But after what has happened now, whom should we blame?

IG said- high quality IED was planted

Bastar IG Sundarraj P said that the Naxalites had planted a high quality IED. The explosion was quite loud. There is a possibility that Naxalites have used Command ID. A team of forensic experts is investigating the case. Rest of the information will be given after investigation. IG said that today all the soldiers will be given a final farewell.
