BMC’s biggest budget of 74 thousand crores so far, focus on old project only

Amid the increased stirring of holding civic elections, the richest municipality BMC has presented the richest budget in Mumbai so far, which is not new, but the emphasis is on running the earlier projects. But is the proposed budget for improvement of pollution, better health system, best service is enough?

The country’s richest metropolitan municipality BMC has presented the biggest budget for Mumbai so far. This budget is 74427 crores which is about 14% more than the previous budget. The BMC, which is running in the financial burden of 2 lakh crores, made a provision of 43,162 crore for the development of the basic facilities of the dream city, but the introduction of new projects is avoided. The emphasis is to complete the earlier projects.

Emphasis on completing these projects

• 5807 crore rupees for coastal road project
• 5545 crore rupees for sewerage treatment plant
• 5100 crore rupees for road traffic department
• 5400 crore rupees for water supply
• 2172 crores for health services
• 1980 crores for bridge construction
• 499 crore rupees for solid waste management
• Rs 411 crore has been allocated for repair of school building
• A provision of ₹ 113 crore has been made for the Environment Department.
• A proposal for financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore is also included to save the financially broken best service

BMC, who is handling the responsibility of Mumbai city, is very surrounded by air pollution. NDTV also exposed many important aspects such as carved roads, people falling ill due to polluted air, violation of their own guidelines on the government construction site. Now in this budget, BMC put a series of anks for environmental improvement and released the green budget book.

BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said that a budget of 113.18 crores for the Environment Department. Focus on energy, transport, waste management, green sector, air quality and water resources management under Mumbai Climate Action Plan. Following 28 point guidelines compulsory at construction sites. 95 teams (Engineers, Cleanup Marshals, Police) should be formed for inspection. 67 tankers (5000 liters) and 39 tankers (9000 liters) will be for washing roads daily. There will be a mechanized cleaning for 250 km of road cleaning per day. 5 new air quality monitoring stations and 4 mobile vans will be installed. 100 battery-powered suction machines will be purchased to control dust.

Local body elections have not been held in Maharashtra for almost three years. In the midst of increased stirring to hold elections soon, the BMC has focused on continuing the ongoing work for Mumbai in its budget and improving the worsening situation.
