This is the family of Yogendra Yadav. In the picture are his father Jairam Yadav, mother Durgavati Devi, wife Anita Devi and children Yogendra.
Our family will go crazy, children are not going to school, daughter-in-law is unconscious. We are 10 km from the district headquarters. Reached Khojapur Madhavpatti village of Kandharapur police station area. When the villagers were asked about the youth who had gone to Russia, they directly pointed towards Yogendra’s house. We reached Yogendra’s house, where there was a strange silence.
Every face is sad, first of all we started talking to Yogendra’s mother, she burst out and said – Mau’s agent Vinod trapped my son. Took him for guard job and sent him to the border. Vinod seduced his son and took him away from home on January 13, 2024. He stayed in Delhi for a few days. After this he took it to Russia.
Our conversations continued till the month of April. We thought that when our son returned in six months, our poverty would go away. In the first week of April we received a call from our son. He told that we are being prepared for war. It seems now these people will send us all to war. The same thing happened after this and on 25th April he was sent into battle.
My son got injured on 9th May, after which talks were held till 25th May 2024. There was no talk with my son from May 25 till today. We are dying of suffocation every day due to not being able to talk to our son. We appealed to the local leaders, police and district officers. But no one is giving satisfactory answer.
We ourselves have gone mad. Only my soul knows how we are living. We will live in poverty but we will not be able to live without our son. As soon as the mother started crying, the daughter-in-law, children and people of the village stood there. Everyone had tears in their eyes. The mother controlled herself and said – I cannot understand how to handle my wife and four children.
Yogendra Yadav’s wife Anita says – Every day the children call their father, but they are unable to talk. We don’t want any money. I want my beloved, my husband. To whom should I go to express my pain? Yogendra Yadav is the eldest among four brothers. Yogendra has 3 daughters and one son. Small children insist on talking to their father. We keep our eyes fixed on the phone as we never know when a call will come.
This picture is of Azharuddin’s mother Nasreen Khan and sister Zeba, both of them are in bad condition crying.
Father died in grief for his son, sister said- he was cheated Leaving Yogendra Yadav’s village, we reached Ghulami Pura village, 15 kilometers away. Agent Vinod had taken Azharuddin here with him on 27 January 2024. Azharuddin’s mother Nasreen says- Vinod came to my house and said, I have a job as a security guard, I will get Rs 2 lakh per month.
My son went there considering the salary as good. When the son went there, we kept talking to all of us for 2 months. Meanwhile, the son was given training and sent to the battlefield. Then one day information was received that his son got injured due to a bomb falling in the war, when Azharuddin’s father Mainuddin came to know about this, he suffered a heart attack on 1st April. He died on April 8. After father’s death, we insisted Agent Vinod to talk to our son.
But he did not make us talk. We didn’t even have money for treatment. Got treatment by selling jewellery. Still Azharuddin’s father did not survive. We called the embassy, pleaded a lot and cried a lot during this time. My last conversation with my son was on 27th April. Then he said that Ammi, I will work here for six months and will return. But till date he has not been found.
Saying this, Azharuddin’s mother starts crying. Taking care of their mother, sister Zeba Khan said – Among our three brothers, he was the only earning one. We are going through a lot of pain regarding our brother. The agreement that was signed was in Russian language. My brother has been cheated. We demand from the government that the government should help us.

Right now our maternal uncle Vinod Yadav is also stuck in Russia. Don’t know their address.

Got jobs as cook, carpenter and security guard Agent Vinod of Mau-Azamgarh district had taken 14 people from Purvanchal to Russia. There it was said that he would get a monthly salary of Rs 2 lakh. He got everyone’s passports made. Then everyone got visas for working as carpenters, cooks and security guards in Russia. Then took everyone to Russia.
Everyone kept talking to their family members till April-May. Not after that. Vinod also last spoke to his father in April. Since then he has not been able to contact him. Till now, Kanhaiya Yadav of Azamgarh and Shyamsundar and Sunil Yadav of Mau have died in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Gave them 15 days of training and took them into the war, bombs were exploding there. Brijesh, who returned from Russia, told that he is a resident of Dharampur Vishunpur of Madhuban tehsil of Mau. As easy as it was to go to Russia, it was much more difficult to return from there. In February 2024, the agent took 14 youths from Mau and Azamgarh to Russia.
We were promised a salary of Rs 2 lakh every month. But, as soon as they reached there, everyone’s dreams were shattered. We were given just 15 days of military training and were thrown into the war against Ukraine. We were divided into groups of four and were dropped into the war zone.
After this no one is able to know who is where. A member of my group was killed in a bomb attack. I was shot in my left leg. After this I was treated there. Told his ordeal to a local official. Then we could contact the embassy. Due to pressure from the embassy, I was sent back home.
Now there is hope for the return of the people of Purvanchal The Indian Foreign Ministry has taken a tough stance towards Russia on Tuesday.
