BPSC 70th Re Exam: Prashant Kishore on fast unto death in Patna, watch video

BPSC 70th Re Exam: Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore started a fast unto death under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Thursday in protest against alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination held on December 13. Prashant Kishore demanded cancellation of the examination and conducting it afresh in a fair manner. He also demanded strict action against corrupt officials who are accused of irregularities in the recruitment process and horse-trading of posts. Earlier, a delegation of protesting candidates met Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. After this, Kishore gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government that if action was not taken, the movement would intensify. In the Joint Competitive Examination held on December 13, hundreds of candidates had boycotted the examination in protest after rumors of question paper being leaked at Bapu Bhawan Examination Center in Patna. BPSC later ordered re-conduct of the examination at this centre, but the protesters remained adamant on their demand to cancel the entire examination. Prashant Kishor had tried to organize Student Parliament at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday, but the administration did not allow it. After this the students marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence, where the police used lathi charge and water cannon on the protesters. Police registered a case against 700 people including teenagers during this demonstration. Kishore told reporters that he stands with the students and will continue the struggle against the injustice being done to them. His initiative has further intensified the students’ movement.
