BPSC 70th re-exam Protest: The 70th joint preliminary examination of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is mired in controversies. Alleging irregularities in the examination and inequality in the question paper, the students have demanded cancellation of the entire examination and re-conducting it. This controversy started when rumors spread that the normalization process would be implemented in the examination after the release of the advertisement in September 2024. Students demonstrated outside the BPSC office in Patna, in which famous teachers Khan sir and Rehman sir also participated. Later the Commission clarified that normalization will not be implemented. Lakhs of students participated in the examination held on 13 December 2024, but allegations of irregularities came to light at Bapu Examination Center in Patna. Students complained about paper seals being open, paper leaks and delay in distribution. During the uproar, Patna DM tried to pacify the students, but as the dispute escalated, the incident of slapping a student went viral. Students alleged that CCTV and jammers were not working at many centres. The Commission canceled the examination of Bapu Examination Center and announced re-examination on 4 January 2025 and issued new admit cards. However, the students protested against re-examination at only one center and remained adamant on the demand for cancellation of the entire examination. During the protest, the police used lathicharge and water cannon on the students, due to which the movement became more violent. Now student organizations have called for Bihar bandh. Opposition parties are also supporting the movement. BPSC has refused to re-conduct the examination, due to which the controversy shows no signs of stopping.
