Jan Suraj leader Prashant Kishore, who was arrested for illegally staging a sit-in at Gandhi Maidan, has got bail from the court. The court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000. Patna Police had arrested Jan Suraj chief Prashant Kishore and his supporters on Monday morning. There was anger among his supporters due to his arrest. After medical test at Patna AIIMS, Prashant Kishore was produced in the civil court where the court granted him bail.
Why was Prashant Kishore arrested?
Kishor had started a fast unto death on January 2 in protest against the alleged leaking of question papers of the examination conducted by BPSP on December 13 and was arrested on the fifth day of the fast. According to supporters of Jan Suraj Party. Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh told PTI, “Yes, the teenagers and their supporters who were sitting on strike at Gandhi Maidan were arrested by the police on Monday morning. They will now be produced in court. He said their protest was “illegal” as they were protesting near a restricted site.
Patna District Magistrate had said that despite repeated requests by the concerned authorities, they did not move from there. The district administration had also issued a notice to them to shift the protest to Gardanibagh area of ​​the state capital, which is the designated venue for the protest.
What has happened so far in the BPSC controversy…?
- Alleging that the question paper of a combined competitive examination conducted by BPSC on December 13 was leaked, hundreds of candidates boycotted the examination conducted at Bapu Examination Center in the city.
- On this, the Commission had ordered to conduct the examination again for 12000 candidates.
- Under this order, the candidates were asked to appear in the examination to be conducted afresh on January 4 at various centers in the city.
- However, the Commission believes that the examination was conducted properly at the remaining 911 centers in Bihar.
- A section of BPSC aspirants started an agitation demanding re-examination be ordered for all centers to ensure ‘level playing field’.
- After a few days, the agitating candidates started getting support from various political parties, independent MP Pappu Yadav and Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore.
- The protesters also claimed that they had provided ‘evidence’ to the authorities that the malpractice was widespread and was not limited to Bapu examination centre.
- These candidates are demanding that a fresh examination be conducted for all the five lakh candidates appearing at more than 900 centers across the state.
- On December 28, 5,943 students appeared in the BPSC re-examination. BPSC said in a statement issued on Saturday that the re-examination was conducted peacefully at all the centers and there was no report of any irregularities.
- On December 29, when Prashant Kishor along with some of his workers reached Gandhi Maidan and joined the protest, a ruckus started, after which the police had to resort to lathi charge.
- On January 2, Prashant Kishare along with his workers sat on a fast unto death at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. He also sought support from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.
- On January 6, Prashant Kishore was arrested by Patna Police. Later he got bail from the court.
