Kirti Chakra is the second largest peaceful valor award in the country.
On the eve of Republic Day, President Draupadi Murmu approved the Bravery Award to 93 soldiers of Armed Forces and Central Armed Forces. These include 2 Kirti Chakra (1 posthumous) and 14 Shaurya Chakra (3 posthumous).
Kirti Chakra is the second largest peaceful valor award in the country. It has been awarded Major Manjit of 22 Rashtriya Rifles and Dilwar Khan (posthumously), the hero of 28 Rashtriya Rifles.
Apart from this, 305 defense decorations have also been approved to Armed Forces and other personnel. These include 30 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, five best war service medals, 57 Ati special service medals, 10 war service medals.
Along with this, there are one time to Army Medal (Bravery), 66 Army Medals (After Seven Posted), 2 Navy Medals, and 8 Air Force Medals, four times to Tu Special Service Medal and 132 Special Service Medals.
942 Police, Fire Department, Civil Defense Personal Gallantry and Service Medal Earlier, the Central Government announced the gallantry and service medal for 942 soldiers of police, fire department and civil defense. There are 101 people receiving the President’s Medal (PSM) for the specific service. There are 746 personnel receiving medals (MSM) for commendable service.
The central government gave the brave medal to 95 people. Among them, there are 5 names which were posthumously honored. These include J&K Police Deputy SP Humayun Mujmil, Head Constable Girjesh Kumar Udde (BSF), Constable Sunil Kumar Pandey (CRPF), Head Constable Ravi Sharma (SSB) and selection grade fireman Satish Kumar Raina.
The 95 Gallantry Awards that have been announced, out of which 28 names are from Naxal-radical affected areas. 28 names are from Jammu and Kashmir region, 3 names are North-East and 36 from other areas.
Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of bravery medal policemen. There are 15 names from Jammu and Kashmir. These honors are given to military, police and other personnel for valor and their sacrifice.
Those who thwart the conspiracy of Amarnath terror attack On the eve of Republic Day, seven of the 15 police officers of Jammu and Kashmir, who were awarded the valor medal, played an important role in avoiding a possible terrorist attack on the Amarnath Yatra three years ago.
Those who received the gallantry medal include DSP Humayun Bhat, one of the four officers who were martyred during an encounter with militants in Kokranag in South Kashmir in September 2023. Bhat was also awarded the Kirti Chakra for extraordinary bravery on the eve of Independence Day last year.

August 2024: 103 Gallantry Award was announced on 78th Independence Day
President Draupadi Murmu approved 103 gallantry awards for the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel on 14 August 2024 on the eve of the 78th Independence Day.
These included 4 Kirti Chakras and 18 Shaurya Chakras. 9 awards were given posthumously. 2 brave soldiers of the Air Force were given Shaurya Chakra and 6 soldiers were given Air Force Medals.
The President awarded the Shaurya Chakra to the Air Force Wing Commander Vernon Desmond Keen VM Flying (Pilot). At the same time, Wing Commander Jaspreet Singh Sandhu was given the Air Force Medal. …
