Relief-rescue work was started here after the information about the blast of the glacier. So far 32 men have been evacuated through rescue operation. Although 25 are still stranded. Relief and rescue work is going on on the spot and the work of evacuating the buried laborers is being done fast.

Inspector General of Police, SDRF, Ridhim Aggarwal said that on 28 February 2025, there was an avalanche in Mana near Badrinath Dham. A total of 57 BRO workers were affected in the avalanche incident. According to Commandant BRO, 16 workers are still safe, while 41 are missing. A team of SDRF has left from Joshimath. The process of opening the route is going on by contacting the army due to the road blocking in Lambagad.

The other team is placed on alert on Sahasradhara helipad. As soon as the weather conditions improve, the SDRF’s High-Altitude Rescue Team will be launched at the closest available place by helicopter. The team of SDRF drone has also been kept ready. Due to heavy snowfall, drone operation has not been possible at present.

“During the construction work conducted by BRO near Mana village in Chamoli district, there was a sad news of many laborers being suppressed. Relief and rescue operations are being conducted by ITBP, BRO and other rescue teams. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal to be safe from all laborers.”

Rescue team started work as soon as the incident was reported

As soon as the incident was reported, the Indian Army immediately activated the quick rescue team. Relief and rescue operations were started with more than 100 soldiers, doctors, ambulances and heavy machinery of Ibax Brigade. By about 11:50 pm, the rescue team detected five containers and took out 10 workers safely. The condition of four of them is said to be critical. The search and rescue operations continue to continue on a war footing to save people trapped in the remaining three containers, although the rescue operations are being slow but maximum vigilance due to frequent avalanches in the area. Heavy snowfall continues in the area, making the situation more challenging. The Border Roads Organization (GREF) is engaged in cleaning the road between Joshimath and Mana, so that relief and rescue operations can be expedited. Also, additional medical aid and resources from Joshimath are being sent to Mana without any additional delay.

Snowfall is happening in many areas for 24 hours

Many altitude areas of Uttarakhand have been snowfall for the last 24 hours. While the rainy season continues in the low -lying areas. Other height areas including Kedarnath Dham, Triyuginarayan, Tungnath, Chopta have received heavy snowfall. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the hilly areas. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert of heavy rains and snowfall in Uttarakhand. According to IMD, the situation of rain and snowfall in other districts including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag will remain.
