Bulldozers run on tents, farmer leader in custody .. Punjab Police evacuated Shambhu and Khanouri border after 13 months

For the last 13 months, thousands of farmers were staging a sit -in demonstration on many demands including MSP of crops on Shambhu and Khanouri border of Punjab. On Wednesday afternoon, a ray of hope was awakened when the central delegation assured the farmer leaders that their demands were being seriously considered. But by the evening, the peasant movement suffered a major setback when the Punjab Police drove the farmers from the Shambhu and Khanouri border and drove the bulldozers on their tents. Earlier, the police had taken several farmer leaders including farmer leaders Saravan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal to detain in Mohali while returning after a meeting with the central delegation, so that no major ruckus would arise. However, despite this, the farmers protested against stopping the removal of the tents, but the police came with full preparation.

  1. The Punjab Police on Wednesday ended the dharna set up by the farmers on the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border and broke the tents. A large number of farmers were sitting on a dharna here with their various demands.
  2. The deployment of police on Shambhu border was greatly increased. The police broke the office of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the pucca fronts made by the farmers. The police have demolished the office and stage of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha by running bulldozers. Under this action of the police, farmers are being removed from Shambhu border and the entire system of strike is being demolished.
  3. On behalf of Punjab Police, DIG Harminder Singh Gill said that so far 40 to 50 farmers have surrendered. He further informed that if a farmer asks for arrest, he will be arrested, while if someone demands to leave, he will be released. It is not that we have taken them hostage.

Earlier, farmer leader Saravan Singh Pandher has said that the deployment of heavy police force on Shambhu border and dozens of ambulances, fire brigades and bulldozers, Saravan Singh Pandher has said that we want to say that the front cannot be empty from here without killing us. We want to tell the farmers of Punjab, Haryana to bring each trolley here, this issue will go somewhere or the other. Will fight till the last breath. The government is big, but cannot be bigger than the public.
  5. The seventh round of talks held in Chandigarh on Wednesday in Chandigarh to discuss other demands including the legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for farmers’ crops. However, Union Ministers involved in Bachitit described the interest of farmers as paramount. After a conversation for more than three hours, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the talks will continue and the next meeting will be held on May 4.
  6. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema justified the removal of farmers from demonstration sites and said that the prolonged shutdown of both the lifestyle for the state has been badly affected by industries and businesses.
  7. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu strongly condemned the custody of farmer leaders and alleged that the ‘AAP’ government of Punjab is trying to ‘fail’ the talks between the Center and the farmers.
  8. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) condemned the ‘deception’ by Punjab Police to ‘deception’ and called it an ‘big insult’ to the country’s Annaders, who are struggling for their ‘legitimate’ demands.
  9. SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said in a statement issued here that it is very sad that the farmers who have contributed significantly to the progress, prosperity and economy of the country are suffering today due to the ‘anti -farmer’ policies of governments.
  10. The protesters under the leadership of United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha were camping at Shambhu (Shambhu (Shambhu-Ambala) and Khanouri (Sangrur-Jind) border between Punjab and Haryana from February 13 last year after the protesters were stopped from traveling to Delhi.
