By-election 2024: Voting today on 15 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat of 4 states including UP – India TV Hindi

Voting today on 15 assembly seats in 4 states

New Delhi: Today there are by-elections for 15 assembly constituencies of 4 states and Nanded Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra. Voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm. This includes 9 seats in UP, 4 seats in Punjab, one seat in Kerala, one seat in Uttarakhand and one seat in Maharashtra Lok Sabha.

Out of these 15, 13 seats had become vacant due to MLAs becoming MPs. One seat had become vacant due to the death of one leader and one leader going to jail. Of these 15 seats, BJP, Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) had 4 seats each and AAP, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Nishad Party had 1 seat each.

  1. Giddarbaha (Muktsar)
  2. Dera Baba Nanak (Gurdaspur)
  3. Chabbewal (Hoshiarpur)
  4. Barnala (Barnala)

Maharashtra (Lok Sabha seat)

Why is by-election being held on Maharashtra Lok Sabha seat?

Nanded Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra has become vacant due to the death of Congress MP Vasantrao Chavan. He died in August 2024. Congress has made his son Ravindra Chavan its candidate on this seat. Whereas, Dr. Santuk Humbarde is in the fray from BJP.

Let us tell you that earlier voting was to be held on 14 seats of 3 states on November 13, but due to festivals, the Election Commission had changed the date. Therefore, these by-elections are being held today i.e. on 20th November.

By-election on Karhal seat interesting

The by-election on Karhal seat of Mainpuri district of UP is interesting. This seat is considered the stronghold of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family. Tej Pratap Yadav is in the fray from here. He has been the MP of Mainpuri. This seat has become vacant after Akhilesh was elected MP from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat. The interesting thing is that BJP has made Akhilesh Yadav’s brother-in-law Anujesh Yadav its candidate to contest against Tej Pratap.
