70-year-old Dr. Vijayalakshmi is a well-known ONCOSRIG of Deshran. She specializes in breast cancer and has been the director of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bangalore. Vijayalakshmi Mane’s family lived in aunt’s slum

In 1955, Vijayalakshmi was born after 6 sisters and a brother. He was named Vijayalakshmi after the freedom fighter and the first governor of the country. Father Babu Rao hoped that his daughter would earn a similar name by reading and writing one day. Babu Rao, who belongs to the Dalit caste, used to maintain his family by doing small work. The financial condition of the family was so weak that he used to wear the abandoned clothes and shoes of others. One time food also depended on how much the parents would earn throughout the day. Father used to sell wood, sometimes used to work to lift burden. Later he got work in a cloth mill and the situation improved a bit.

There was awareness about education despite poverty

In an interview given to a TV channel, Dr. Vijayalakshmi Deshnen said that her parents may be poor and illiterate, but they wanted their children to become self-sufficient by reading and writing. This was the reason that Vijayalakshmi started teaching in Kannada and Marathi by breaking caste shackles. To help the family, he and his brother used to go to sell with their mother by placing a vegetable basket on their heads.

Dr. Deshnay says, “We used to go to sell Tarkari every day. This is such a thing without which people cannot work. We used to see different types of people, their families and educational levels. And we also used to inspire that we also have to become a big man like them by reading and writing. ”

Mother’s Mangalasutra sold and admitted to MBBS

Vijayalakshmi continued her studies, regardless of daylight and night darkness. But education becomes expensive after 12th. Then she felt that she might not be able to read further. But the mother took off her mangalsutra and gave her father to sell. So that Vijayalakshmi’s MBBS fees can be paid.

Failed in the first year

A new conflict in MBBS was the beginning. Vijayalakshmi did not even have money to buy an apron. She used to go to the medical college wearing an old apron of lab assistant. One of his seniors gave him his stipe to support him, so that he could buy a new apron. Dr. Vijayalakshmi is emotional and says, at every step, the society has supported me, some good people have supported. I can never forget them. I can never take off the debt of those people. “

But studies were still not very easy. Vijayalakshmi was studied so far through Kannada medium. While medical studies were completely in English medium. This was the reason that she failed in the first year of MBBS. She started learning English day and night and became the first rank holder of the university. However, this was the time when the roof of his house was about to fall.

Many awards are in the names of Dr. Deshne

Surgical Oncology Specialist Dr. Vijayalakshmi Mane has been awarded several awards before Padma Shri. Kalash Award from Rotary Group for his outstanding service in 1998, American Biographical Institute in 1999, Women of the Year Award from USA, International Integrity Peace and Friendship Society in 2005, Women’s Shiromani Award in Bangalore, International Study in 2004 Gold medals etc. are included from the circle. Recently he has been appointed as the chairperson of IIT Kottayam.

Social service and free medical service

Dr. country comes from a background where he has faced different struggle. Therefore, she understands people’s economic, social and emotional conflicts as well as medical needs. After retiring from Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru in 2015, he dedicated himself to social service and free treatment.

She says, I am only the instrument. God has chosen me for this service. Whenever I operate, I first thank God, that he made me the medium of this task. My parents, my gurus, my colleagues, brought me to here. I am also grateful to my patients, whom I constantly talk and keep learning. I bought a photo copy machine so that I can keep my data base updated and help others.

After retirement, Dr. Vijayalakshmi Mane contributes to 15 days of research, study, awareness camps and social service. Whereas the remaining 15 days they provide free services in the Karnataka Cancer Society. He is also the chairman of the shelter “Abalashram” being run for needy women in Bengaluru.
