25 days before the assembly elections, the report of CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India) regarding liquor policy in Delhi has been leaked. In this, it has been said that the government will suffer a revenue loss of Rs 2026 crore.
India Today has claimed to have a copy of the report. The report states that there were many irregularities in the liquor policy, including deficiencies in licensing. Along with this, AAP leaders were allegedly benefited through bribes.
It has been reported in the report that the group of ministers headed by the Deputy Chief Minister had rejected the suggestions of the expert panel. The cabinet had approved the policy and on many important decisions the approval of the then Lieutenant Governor was not even taken.
According to the report, despite the complaints, everyone was given permission to bid for the auction. Those who had incurred losses were also given licenses or renewed. The CAG report is yet to be tabled in the Delhi Assembly.
The new liquor policy was implemented in Delhi in 2021. Many questions were raised regarding license allocation. The policy had to be withdrawn. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were accused of corruption. Both also went to jail. Had to leave the post of CM and Deputy CM. Currently out on bail.

On December 21, LG gave permission to prosecute Kejriwal On December 21, Delhi LG VK Saxena had given permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy matter. On December 5, ED had sought permission from LG to conduct trial against Kejriwal.
ED had registered a case against the former Chief Minister under Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) in March this year. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 after 4 hours of interrogation. Kejriwal got bail in this case, but ED could not start the trial.

- ED had filed the 7th charge sheet against Kejriwal in the trial court. Taking cognizance of the charge sheet on July 9, the trial court had said – there is enough evidence to prosecute the case against Kejriwal.
- In November, Kejriwal had sought quashing of the trial court’s order taking cognizance of the ED’s 7th charge sheet in the Delhi High Court. He had said that at the time of the allegations made by ED, he was a public servant.
- Was handling the responsibility of Chief Minister of Delhi. ED did not have the necessary approval to run the case. Despite this, the trial court took action on the charge sheet.
- After Kejriwal’s demand was rejected by the High Court, Kejriwal reached the Supreme Court. Where the court ruled in his favor. The court said that government permission is necessary to prosecute the case.
- After this, the Supreme Court, while giving its verdict on November 6, had said that a case cannot be prosecuted against a public servant under the sections of Money Laundering (PMLA) without the permission of the government. This rule will also apply to CBI and State Police. After this ED sought permission from the Governor.
