The ICC Champions Trophy is to be held in February next year. But this matter is not getting resolved. Meetings are being held continuously, but till now it is not clear where the Champions Trophy will be held. Although its hosting has been given to Pakistan, but BCCI has refused to send the Indian team there due to security reasons. After this, Pakistan Cricket Board i.e. PCB is badly stuck. Meanwhile, there is news that if Pakistan withdraws its name from this tournament then there is a possibility of huge loss for it. PCB is at that stage where it is neither making fun nor making fun of it.
PCB may have to face a lawsuit
There is news that if Pakistan Cricket Board i.e. PCB decides to withdraw from the Champions Trophy, then it will suffer huge loss in revenue. Not only this, he may also have to face lawsuits. If this happens then Pakistan may have to be isolated from international cricket also. An ICC official has told PTI that if the ICC and BCCI refuse to completely accept the hybrid model, then the decision to withdraw from the tournament will not be easy for the PCB. The official said that Pakistan has not only signed the hosting agreement with the ICC, but like all other countries participating in the Champions Trophy, it has also signed the mandatory participation agreement with the ICC as members.
Pakistan may have to lose its earnings also
ICC officials have said that a country is entitled to receive a share of the earnings from ICC tournaments only after signing an MPA to participate in ICC tournaments. The official said that the most important thing that ICC has done is that it has signed an agreement with the broadcaster for all its competitions in which it has guaranteed that all its member countries will participate in ICC competitions including the Champions Trophy.
Consensus was based on hybrid model, PCB came down on dogma
Let us remind you that only last week the ICC was successful in achieving consensus on organizing the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model. According to this, the Indian team will play its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai. Also, whatever ICC tournaments will be held till the year 2027, they will also be held according to this policy. However, no official announcement has been made regarding this. If this agreement is reached, it will mean that Pakistan will not be obliged to tour India for ICC tournaments until 2027. The administrator said that if Pakistan withdraws from the Champions Trophy, the ICC and even the other 16 member countries on the ICC Executive Board can sue them. The broadcaster can also adopt this route, as Pakistan’s exit will be a loss to all stakeholders. He also revealed that the PCB did not receive solid support from other members of the executive board.
Now ICC can adopt a strict stance
Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board had prepared the schedule of Champions Trophy and sent it to ICC. But it has not been released yet. It is clear from the kind of stubbornness the PCB is adopting at the moment that because of its actions the final decision has not been taken yet. Now only a few days are left for the Champions Trophy, leave aside the schedule, even the venues have not been decided yet. However, it is believed that in the coming few days the ICC may take a strict stand in this entire matter.
