Champions Trophy 2025: These two players gave “sweet pain” to the selectors for the Champions Trophy, may be included in the team

The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, had to face defeat by 1-3 in the five-Test series on the Australian tour. With this defeat, India’s dream of reaching the final of the World Test Championship was shattered. The batsmen were responsible for Team India’s defeat, who had completely surrendered on Australian soil. After this, many veterans including Sunil Gavaskar had suggested senior players to play in Ranji and the board also adopted a strict attitude regarding this.

While on one hand the board is worried about the flops of Indian batsmen, on the other hand Karun Nair and Devdutt Padikkal are giving headache to the selectors as well. However, both of them have given “sweet pain” to the selectors with their consistently excellent performances. After the performance of these two, it is expected that they may get a place in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy.

Karun Nair’s historical feat

Karun Nair, who made headlines by scoring a triple century against England, has made many records in his name with his brilliant performance in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Due to his brilliant performance, Vidarbha was successful in reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.

Nair scored 664 runs in six innings with the help of five brilliant centuries at an excellent strike rate of 120.07. The special thing is that he has been out only once in the entire tournament.

Karun Nair has scored 122*, 112, 111, 163*, 44* and 112* in his last six innings. Before being out for 112 against Uttar Pradesh, Nair had set a new List A world record by scoring 542 runs without being out. Nair became the batsman who scored the most runs without getting out in List A. He left behind former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin, who had scored 527 runs without getting out in 2010.

Top order batsman Karun Nair has staked his claim with his excellent form before the Champions Trophy. If reports are to be believed, the selectors are keeping an eye on Nair. However, if Nair gets a place in Team India, then there is a question about which position he will play. Because Nair comes to bat at number-3 position in domestic cricket.

Talking about Nair’s record in 50 over cricket, he has scored 3013 runs in 105 List A matches. During this period his average was 40.17, while his strike rate was 87.84. In this format, he has also scored 8 centuries and 13 half-centuries with his bat.

Devdutt Padikkal is also presenting his claim.

Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal has also scored a century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. On Wednesday, he scored his seventh consecutive half-century of the tournament and took his team to the final. Padikkal has scored one century and one half-century in the current tournament.

He scored 102 runs against Baroda, while against Haryana he played an inning of 86 runs. Devdutt Padikkal has scored 2000 runs in 27 innings of List A cricket at an average of more than 100. Devdutt Padikkal is a left-handed top order batsman.

If he comes into the team then he will get right-left combination. But he is facing tough competition from Jaiswal. However, there is little possibility that Padikkal will get a place in the team for the Champions Trophy. It will be interesting to see what reward the board, which is asking senior players to play domestic cricket, gives to those players who perform well in domestic cricket. Let us tell you, there is also a news that the selectors are waiting for the Vijay Hazare Trophy to end before announcing the team for the Champions Trophy.
