After the arrest of Chinmoy Prabhu, ISKCON made a post on X. In which I said, we have received worrying news that ISKCON Bangladesh’s prominent leader Chinmoy Krishna Das has been arrested by Dhaka Police. ISKCON appeals to the Government of India to take immediate action and talk to the Government of Bangladesh. We are a peaceful devotional movement. treason case registered
Let us tell you that on October 30 this year, a case was registered against 19 people including Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu under the Sedition Act for insulting the national flag in Bangladesh. Two people have also been arrested in this case. It is alleged that on October 25, Sanatan Jagran Manch had organized a rally at Laldighi Ground in Chittagong with eight-point demands. During this time, some people had hoisted the saffron flag on the Azadi Pillar located at a square. Aami Sanatani was written on this flag. Regarding this, Chinmoy Krishna Das has been accused of contempt and insult to the national flag.
Hindus are being targeted in Bangladesh
Meanwhile, let us also tell here that Bangladesh Police had arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday. Due to the student movement in Bangladesh, minority Hindus living there are under target after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Hindus and their religious places were targeted during the student movement. ISKCON temple located in Khulna, Meherpur of Bangladesh was also targeted. Regarding this attack, Chinmoy Prabhu had expressed deep concern over the security of Hindu temples.
Hindus in Bangladesh have been increasingly targeted by violent mobs, particularly in recent months, with reports of widespread attacks, including the burning of homes, abduction of women, and physical assaults. The violence has intensified amid political instability, especially after the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024. Islamist extremist groups have exploited this power vacuum, launching attacks on Hindu communities, particularly in rural areas, where they have been driven out of villages and subjected to severe harassment
.
These acts of violence are not isolated. Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, which constitutes about 8% of the population, has long faced systemic discrimination, and recent events highlight the growing insecurity. Attacks have escalated since early 2024, with over 2,000 incidents reported, including assaults on Hindu temples and religious figures
. Despite calls for government intervention, including protests from Hindu groups, many say the authorities have failed to protect them effectively, and there is little accountability for the perpetrators
This ongoing violence is not only a direct assault on the Hindu community but also part of a broader issue of rising intolerance and human rights violations in Bangladesh. International human rights organizations have expressed concern, urging the government to take stronger measures to ensure the safety of minorities
