New Delhi:
Congress leader Ajay Maken said on Saturday that his party should not form any alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. However, he kept the options open and said that these are his personal views. When asked whether Congress will support the Arvind Kejriwal-led party if needed after the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections? Maken said, “It is my personal view that there should be no alliance with AAP.” The All India Congress Committee (AICC) treasurer said, “I feel that AAP should not have received any support (from the Congress) in 2013 nor should there have been any alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, this “It’s my personal opinion.”
Addressing the first press conference at the Congress’s new headquarters on Kotla Road, Maken said he stood by his earlier comment that Kejriwal is “anti-national” and AAP’s strengthening in the capital will only help the BJP.
Strong Congress necessary at national level: Maken
Asked about his “anti-national” remarks against Kejriwal, Maken said, “I had given my personal view and I still stand by it.” He said that the people of Delhi faced problems due to Congress’ support to Aam Aadmi Party in 2013 and alliance with the Kejriwal-led organization in 2024.
Maken said, “When the people of Delhi faced problems, the BJP benefited, but this is my personal view.”
Asked whether the Congress would still go with AAP, he said, “I think Kejriwal’s prominence in Delhi helps the BJP. It is important to have a strong Congress at the national level to fight the BJP.” .” Maken said that if a party like Congress is not strong at the national level then it is difficult to fight against BJP.
He said, “No one can fight BJP by weakening Congress.”
Delhi is not politically insignificant: Maken
Maken said that Delhi is not an insignificant state politically. Everyone knows that whichever party wins Lok Sabha seats in the capital, forms its government at the Centre.
“AAP has failed to fight against the BJP in Delhi,” he claimed.
Maken said the Congress wanted to forge an alliance with AAP in both Haryana and Delhi, but soon after his release from jail, Kejriwal himself announced that his party would contest all 90 assembly seats in Haryana, “while we are looking for an alliance.” “We were in the advanced stages of discussion.”
He said, “As far as Delhi is concerned, Kejriwal himself had announced immediately after the Lok Sabha elections that he will contest the Delhi elections on his own.”
Who is with BJP?: Maken asked the question
Maken said that when there was a Congress government in Delhi under the leadership of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the Congress won all the seven Lok Sabha seats in the capital and stopped the BJP here. “By stopping him in Delhi, we stopped him from taking power at the Center because whoever wins Lok Sabha seats in Delhi forms the government at the national level,” he said.
The Congress leader said, “Ever since AAP came to power in Delhi, the opposite is happening and the BJP is forming the government at the Center as it has won all seven Lok Sabha seats. Then who is with the BJP?”
