Siddaramaiah inaugurated the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi.
On the completion of 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi becoming the Congress President, Karnataka Congress took out Jai Bhim, Jai Bapu, Jai Constitution rally in Belagavi on Tuesday. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar also participated in it.
Kharge said- BJP has been trying to weaken the Constitution for the last several years. If there was no constitution in the country, there would have been anarchy in the country. This is the reason why people remember Gandhi nowadays. People respect them for their work, their sacrifice and contribution.
At the same time, CM Siddaramaiah said- Mahatma Gandhi was a diehard Hindu and Congress believes in Gandhi’s Hindutva. Gandhi always used to take the name of Lord Ram. When Nathuram Godse assassinated him, Gandhi had said Hey Ram. BJP has always presented Gandhi as anti-Hindu, but that is 100 percent false.
Deputy CM Shivkumar said- Even though Gandhiji has died, his values are still alive. This is not just a Congress programme. The leadership of the Father of the Nation and the non-violence movement was accepted by all the leaders of the world.
Taking aim at BJP, he said – We do not want to listen to what Godse Party has said. Those who do not know about the freedom movement. They don’t know what sacrifice is.

CM Siddaramaiah said – BJP’s Manuwadi, we will have to protect the Constitution
CM Siddaramaiah said- Gandhi was never against Hindu religion, but he wanted to reform Hindu religion. He always wanted to see Hindus and Muslims living as brothers. Gandhi did not limit himself to the freedom struggle, but also gave important guidelines regarding administration and told how ministers should behave.
CM Siddaramaiah further said that we believe in Gandhi’s Hindutva and BJP believes in dividing the society. BJP people are Manuwadis. We must protect the Constitution and save democracy. If we protect the Constitution, the Constitution will protect us.
Priyank Kharge said – will not be distracted by Amit Shah’s comment on the Constitution
Congress leader Priyank Kharge said – The program to be organized to commemorate 100 years of Gandhi becoming the President was postponed due to the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. On Amit Shah’s comment on the Constitution, Priyank Kharge said – Ambedkar Any kind of misinterpretation of the Constitution will not be tolerated.

Congress’s Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Constitution campaign was to start from December 27 itself. On the completion of 100 years of the Belagavi session of Congress held in 1924, the party had organized a special session on 26 and 27 December.
The session had started on the scheduled date but after the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the session was canceled in the evening. Besides, the date of the campaign was also extended.
Regarding the campaign, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had said that rallies will be held in every block, district and state to save the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and the Constitution. If needed, the campaign can continue even after January 26.

‘Veersaudha’ memorial has been built in Belgaum to commemorate the convention. The well present in the campus is known as Congress Well.
Belagavi was an important center in the country’s freedom struggle. Lokmanya Tilak started his ‘Home Rule League’ movement from Belgaum in 1916. The Belagavi session held in 1924 was the first and last session of the Congress which was presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.
The session was held at a place called Vijayanagar in Tilakwadi area of Belagavi. Now the site of the Congress session has been made a famous tourist destination. A well was built there, which still exists today as a testimony of the convention.
Mahatma Gandhi was angry with the expenses incurred in the convention Mahatma Gandhi had reached Belagavi six days before the start of the convention. He wanted to bring unity between the ‘Swaraj’ faction, which demanded independence, and the ‘No-Change’ faction, which favored maintaining the status quo under British rule.
A worker named Khemajirao Godse spent 350 rupees and built a small hut of bamboo and grass for Gandhiji. On this Gandhiji said that it is not right for an ordinary person like me to spend so much money.
A huge tent was prepared for the convention. It was as big as a circus tent and was rented for Rs 5000. An insurance of Rs 500 was also taken out to protect against fire. Gandhiji had also objected to the amount spent on decorations. He also requested to reduce the representative fee from Rs 10 to Rs 1, which was accepted.
Despite all this, Congress got a profit of Rs 773 from the Belagavi session. Of this, Rs 745 was deposited in PUCC Bank, Rs 25 were kept with the Secretary for expenses, and Rs 1 was kept with Treasurer NV Herekar for minor expenses.
