The Army has installed the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj near Pangong Tso Lake in Ladakh. Controversy has started on social media regarding this. Now there is a demand that it would be better to install the statue of General Zorawar Singh, who conquered Ladakh, here.
A 30 feet high statue of Shivaji Maharaj has been installed at an altitude of 14,300 in eastern Ladakh. This place is near the Line of Actual Control (LaC) with China. This statue has been inaugurated by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, Commander of the Army’s 14th Corps Fire and Puri Fury Corps.
Lieutenant General Bhalla is also the Colonel of the Regiment of Maratha Light Infantry. On this occasion, Lieutenant General Bhalla spoke on the relevance of Shivaji Maharaj’s ideal of valor, strategy and justice in modern-day military campaigns.
The rationale behind installing the statue of Dogra General Zorawar Singh near Pangong Lake is that he is the same great warrior who conquered Ladakh. He also fought in Tibet in the 1800s.
But Shivaji is not facing towards the Chinese for some strange reason

Pangong is a strategic location, should have been adorned by a figure who holds a historical importance in that location.
Gen Zorawar Singh went all the way in Tibbet and liberated Mansarovar after hundreds of years, Ladakh is part of India because of him.

Some are also saying that some distance away from here, 1962 hero Paramveer Chakra winner Shaitan Singh sacrificed his life while fighting the Chinese. His statue was not installed.

Some people are also saying whether the statue of General Zorawar Singh can be installed in Raigarh Fort of Maharashtra?
The Army’s official statement said that his (Chhatrapati Shivaji’s) installation at Pangong Tso Lake is a boost to the morale of the soldiers and a testament to India’s historical and contemporary military strength.
Recently, the famous picture of Pakistan’s surrender of 1971 in the Army Chief’s lounge was removed. In its place the picture of Pangong Tso Lake is visible.
