Security forces have imposed curfew in Kansakhul and Leilon Vaifei. (file)
Curfew was imposed on Saturday in two neighboring villages of Kansakhul and Leilon Vafei in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. Movement of people in both the villages and their surrounding areas has been banned till further orders.
There is tension here after Kuki youth of one village allegedly attacked a Naga woman from another village. Meanwhile, in Hongbai area of Kamjong district on Saturday, a mob attacked the temporary camp of Assam Rifles and destroyed it.
According to officials, the soldiers had stopped wood from being taken for the construction of a house. They were angry with this. To disperse the crowd, soldiers fired tear gas shells and fired in the air.

Violence continues for more than a week
Violence has continued in Kangpokpi district for more than a week. On January 3, people of the Kuki community attacked the Kangpokpi Superintendent of Police (SP) office. Many policemen including SP Manoj Prabhakar were injured in this.
Officials had told that the demand of the Kuki people is to remove the security forces from Saibol village located on the border of Imphal East district. The community alleges that the SP has not expelled the Central Force from the village.
CM had said- Kuki-Meitei create mutual understanding Manipur CM Biren Singh had said on December 25 – Manipur needs immediate peace. Create mutual understanding between both the communities (Kuki-Meitei). Only BJP can save Manipur because it believes in the idea of ’living together’.
He had said that there are many reasons for what is happening in Manipur today. Today those who are trying to divide the state are asking what the government is doing. People are hungry for power. We are not against any particular community. BJP’s stand is clear. We have started building relations between the police and the people.
CM said- We never did any wrong thing. We only want to save the future generations. Both communities need to remain calm. Instead of looking at the past, we need to focus on the NRC process. We will continue our work in a democratic and constitutional manner.
