A video has surfaced from a school in Palakodu, Tamil Nadu, in which girl students can be seen cleaning the washroom. In the video going viral, girl students in school uniform are seen sweeping.
It is being claimed that all the cleaning students belong to the Dalit community. Their parents told that apart from getting the children to clean the bathrooms, they are also made to fetch water and clean the campus. As the matter escalated, the District Education Officer dismissed the school principal.
According to media reports, this school has classes only from 1st to 8th. About 150 students of Dalit community study in the school. Their parents said that children often return home tired due to cleaning work in school.

Parents said- Heart breaks after seeing the condition of children
After the video went viral, a student’s mother said – We send our children to school not to clean, but to study. When they come home they are too tired to do their homework.
The student’s mother said that when we asked her the reason, she said that she had spent her time cleaning the school and toilets instead of studying. It is heart breaking to see the condition of the children and it seems that the teachers are not paying attention to their responsibilities of teaching.
District Education Officer said – investigation is going on, action will be taken
The District Education Officer has said that action will be taken soon regarding the video going viral and the increasing concerns of parents. The principal has been dismissed. Children’s rights and their development are our priority.
