These apps steal your personal and bank details and send them to hackers, due to which you may suffer a major fraud. Security research company said that 15 such fake apps have been detected, which have been downloaded by millions of people. These 15 fake loan apps have been seen on Google Play Store, due to which millions of Android users are currently the target of hackers. McAfee’s research team has seen these apps on the Play Store. About 8 million i.e. 80 lakh users have downloaded these apps. The security research firm has shared information about these apps with Google. Till the time of writing the news, many of these apps have been removed from Google Play Store. However, these apps will still be installed on the phones of millions of users. In such a situation, they need to be uninstalled immediately.

Why is it dangerous?

These fake loan apps are dangerous because when installed on the users’ phones, they ask for many types of permissions, which include access to phone, calls, messages, camera, microphone, location, etc. Under the compulsion of taking a loan, users give all the permissions to these apps on their phones, after which the users’ data is stolen. The security firm says that these apps are based on common framework and codes, due to which they can steal OTP i.e. One Time Password from the user’s phone.

Apart from this, these apps are designed in such a way that they can bypass Google’s security. This is the reason why despite being Google Play protected, they are listed on the Play Store. Many users have also complained about these apps on Google Play Store. Through these apps, hackers are also threatening users by stealing photos from their smartphones, modifying them.
