Before the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi in 2013, the Congress government was in power for 15 consecutive years.
On Tuesday night, Congress released the fourth list of 16 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. There are names of 4 women and 2 SC candidates in this list. Till now the party has announced 63 names. Now candidates are yet to be announced for 7 seats.
The candidate from Gokalpur seat has been changed. Earlier, Pramod Kumar Jayant was given ticket from here. In his place, the party has made Ishwar Bagri its candidate. Former MLA Dharam Pal Lakra, who came to Congress from Aam Aadmi Party from Mundka seat, has been given the ticket.
Former Union Minister of State Krishna Tirath has been made the candidate from Patel Nagar reserved seat. At the same time, ticket has been given to Gandhi Nagar Kamal Arora. He will contest against BJP’s Arvinder Singh Lovely. Lovely was a Congress candidate in the last elections.
Bhishma Sharma, who was the 2020 candidate on the sole Ghonda seat, has again got the ticket. There are new candidates on the remaining 14 seats, whereas the party did not field a candidate on Kirara seat in the 2020 elections. Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting was held in Delhi on Tuesday.
21 names announced in the first list Congress had announced the names of 21 candidates in the first list on December 12. Congress has given ticket to Sandeep Dixit against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat.
26 candidates announced in the second list On December 24, Congress had released the second list. There are 26 names in it. Farhad Suri has been given ticket on Jangpura seat. AAP’s Manish Sisodia is contesting from here. Whereas, Haji Mohammad Ishraq Khan has been fielded against AAP’s Gopal Rai from Babarpur seat.
Satish Luthra has been given ticket against Satyendra Jain from Shakur Basti, Pushpa Singh has been given ticket against Naresh Yadav from Mehrauli. Kailash Gehlot was the MLA from Mehrauli seat. Kailash has left AAP and joined BJP.
Alka Lamba’s name in the third list On January 3, 2025, Congress announced a candidate. In this, Alka Lamba was made the candidate against CM Atishi from Kalkaji Assembly. Both Alka and Atishi have filed nominations on January 14.
Alka Lamba has been an MLA from 2015 to 2020.
Voting in Delhi on 5 February, result on 8 February The Election Commission had announced Delhi Assembly elections on 7 January. Voting will be held on February 5 in a single phase on all 70 seats of Delhi. The results will come on 8 February. It will take about 35 days from the day of announcement of dates to complete the election process i.e. till 10th February.
In the one and a half hour press conference, CEC Rajiv Kumar spoke on Delhi elections for only 10 minutes. For more than an hour, he responded to the opposition’s allegations like EVM, irregularities in the voter list and deletion of names of voters of a particular category. Read the full news…
