State Bureau, Naiduniya, Bhopal (Crime Against Women). With great ambition, the government had implemented the Police Commissioner system in Bhopal and Indore from December 9, 2021. The claim was that crimes would reduce in this system. The culprits will be punished soon.
The names of police officers and the system changed, but crimes did not reduce. The situation is that even after the implementation of the system in both the cities, crimes against women increased. According to a report of the police headquarters, 849 incidents of rape took place in Indore from December 2021 to May 2024, i.e. about two and a half years. Of these, 397 were minors.
891 cases of rape registered in Bhopal
891 cases of rape were registered in Bhopal. Of these, 369 were minors. Thus, the incidents of rape were less in Indore than in Bhopal, but there were more incidents with minors in Indore. Not only crimes against women, general crimes have also increased at both the places.
Robbery incidents also increased by 72 percent
There were 40 incidents of robbery in Bhopal between December 9, 2020 and December 9, 2021, which increased to 69 between December 9, 2021 to December 9, 2022 (in the next one year). That means incidents of robbery increased by 72 percent. Murder cases increased by eight percent during the same period.
Kidnapping incidents increased from 411 to 537. That means there was an increase of 30 percent. Cases of missing girls have also increased in both the cities having police commissioner system. In Indore, 545 cases were registered in the year 2022 and 575 in 2023.
Police searched more than 90 percent
Similarly, 360 minors went missing in Bhopal in the year 2022, 356 in 2023 and 184 minors went missing in the year 2024 till May. Although more than 90 percent of these were discovered by the police, questions remain over security and order.
Reason for increase in crime even in police commissioner system
- Police patrolling at night is weak, criminals have no fear of the police.
- MD drugs factory, sex racket caught in Bhopal, failure of intelligence system.
- There are approximately one thousand posts vacant in the Police Commissioner system including Indore and Bhopal.
- Half of these belong to head constables and constables.
- The postings of officers are being changed frequently.
