Kharge said that whenever important issues are raised by the opposition as per rules, the Speaker does not allow the discussion to take place in a planned manner. Time and again opposition leaders are prevented from speaking. Dhankhar’s loyalty is to the ruling party rather than to the Constitution and constitutional tradition.
Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday that the biggest reason for the deadlock in the House is Vice President Dhankhar himself. He said that Dhankhar was acting as the spokesperson of the government for his next promotion and his conduct had caused great harm to the dignity of the country. The constituent parties of the ‘India’ alliance on Tuesday gave notice of the proposal to remove Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post of Vice President.
Kharge said in a joint press conference with the leaders of the constituent parties of the opposition alliance ‘India’ on Wednesday that the Vice President is the second highest constitutional post in India. Since 1952 till now, no proposal has been brought to remove any Vice President because he has always Has been impartial and beyond politics. He always ran the House as per the rules. But, today more politics is happening in the House than rules. We regret that in the 75th year of the adoption of the Constitution, due to the partisan conduct of the Vice President, we have been forced to bring this proposal.
Kharge said, “He (Rajya Sabha Chairman) behaves like a headmaster… Whenever important issues are raised by the opposition as per rules, the Chairman does not allow the discussion to take place in a planned manner. He repeatedly prevented opposition leaders from speaking. Dhankhar’s loyalty is to the ruling party rather than to his next promotion. I have no hesitation in saying that he will create the biggest disruption in the Rajya Sabha. person doing He is the president himself.”
He claimed that Dhankhar insults senior opposition leaders. The Congress President said that Dhankhar’s conduct has caused great harm to the dignity of the country. He said, “His behavior has hurt the dignity of the country. He has created such a situation in the history of parliamentary democracy that we had to bring this notice for the motion (no-confidence motion). We have no personal enmity or political fight with him.” We want to tell the countrymen that we have taken this step very thoughtfully to protect democracy and the Constitution.”
RJD MP Manoj Jha said, “…It is not about any individual but it is about restoration of the basic principle of democracy… If you have seen the proceedings of the last 2 days – some people, whom we Respectfully, the language used – it not only hurts but we also wonder if there is a change of power in the coming days, will we be able to repair and restore democracy?
DMK MP Tiruchi Siva said, “There is a blatant attack on the democracy of this country by the party in power in Parliament and they are being patronized by the Speaker, this is very sad. We have experienced in the past that when BJP When the Congress was also in the opposition, whenever the leader of the opposition stood up to speak or offered to speak immediately, the leader of the opposition was given a chance to speak and no one spoke in between. We are not allowed to speak at all about what is going on in India, which means it is a blow to parliamentary democracy and the democracy of this country.”
