Director of IIT Madras (Chennai), Prof. A video related to V Kamakoti is viral. In this they are seen claiming that cow’s urine has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It can cure many diseases, including IBS or irritable bowel syndrome.
Congress leader Karti Chidambaram said on Kamakoti’s claim – It is extremely indecent for the director of IIT Madras to promote pseudo science. The DMK leader has talked about removing Kamakoti from IIT and appointing him somewhere else.
In fact, on July 15, V Kamakoti had participated in the ‘Cow’ Pongal program in Chennai, where he had talked about the medicinal properties of cow urine. According to NDTV, Prof. Kamakoti was asked whether a person propagating science should spread superstition.
Kamakoti replied – Anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of cow urine have been scientifically shown. USA’s top magazine has published its scientific proof. It is wrong for people to think that there is no concrete experiment or scientific evidence on the medical properties of cow urine.
Pro. Kamakoti had said in the program-
We have to accept its medicinal value
During the program Prof. Kamakoti had said that cow urine has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Cow urine is a great medicine for digestive and stomach problems, IBS and other diseases. We have to accept its medicinal value.
Pro. Kamakoti featured Nature Journal article published in 2021
Pro. Kamakoti shared an article published in the science journal Nature in June 2021. In this, scientists associated with the Animal Biotechnology Center and Cell Biology and Proteomics Lab of the National Dairy Research Institute had published ‘results of peptide profiling in cow urine’.
Scientists had concluded that a simple method has been described for the discovery of thousands of endogenous peptides in cow urine. These contribute to different bioactivities associated with cow urine.
We used E. coli and S. Provide evidence of peptide-mediated antimicrobial activity against C. aureus. But more experiments are needed to validate other bioactivities.
Pro. Who said what on Kamakoti’s claim-
- Congress leader Karti Chidambaram, while sharing the viral video of Kamakoti in an Karti also tagged the Indian Medical Association in his post.
- DMK leader TS Elangovan said in a statement to TOI that Kamakoti should be transferred. They should be posted in any medical college of the Government of India. What will they do in IIT? The government should throw them out. He should appoint a director of AIIMS.
- BJP Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai said- It is unfortunate that the director of our IIT Chennai is a very respectable person. An expert in AI and quantum computing, he chose to follow his religion and pray to his God in his own way. But it is being politicized. Everyone has the right to practice their religion.
Now know this special information related to cow urine and urine of other animals.
According to a report by Amritsar Government Medical College at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), cow urine contains 95 percent water, 2.5 percent urea, minerals, 24 types of salts, hormones and 2.5 percent enzymes.
According to Dr. Thakur Rakesh Singh, Assistant Professor, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, animal urine is used in Ayurveda in broadly 3 ways –
- For purification of medicines while making them.
- For cleaning the intestines through enema and applying the paste by adding it to the medicine.
- There is also mention of consumption of cow urine extract at some places.
According to Dr. Rakesh, nowadays people start drinking cow urine by watching YouTube and internet and then buy cow urine from the shop and some people buy urine from any nearby cow and drink it directly. This method is wrong. In Ayurveda, cow urine is said to be better than the urine of other animals. That is why it is used in making many medicines.
Former director’s claim, cow urine can also cure cancer
Dr. RS Chauhan, former director of ICAR-IVRI and professor at Govind Ballabh Pant University, Pantnagar, claims that cow urine not only protects from cancer, but if cancer occurs, it can also be cured by cow urine. He says, ‘Under a project of the Central Government, research is being done on ‘Badri’ cow found in Uttarakhand. These cows graze in the forest. Therefore, the quality of urine of ‘Badri’ cow is better as compared to foreign breed cows, buffaloes and other animals. Cow urine extract increases immunity and improves health. It is beneficial in diseases like TB.
There is no evidence that cow urine can cure cancer, it is wrong to make such claims.
According to Dr. Mahendra Singh, a senior scientist doing research on cancer in America, many diseases can be cured with Ayurvedic medicines. There is also mention of diseases like cancer. But, it is not right to say that cancer will be cured just by drinking cow urine. Till now this has not been proved in any research.
According to Dr. Rakesh, until it is proved in some research, it cannot be said that diseases like cancer can be completely cured by cow urine. Such claim is not correct. All parameters will have to be checked before making any claim. Such claims only cause greater harm to Ayurveda.
According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, internal medicine expert at Paras Hospital, Gurugram, animal urine is neither used nor taught in allopathy. Mohammad Saad Ahmed Khan, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University, also denies the use of animal urine and dung in Unani medicine.
