Drone hunters target UP Police in Mahakumbh, 9 drones shot down

Devotees from all over the country and the world continue to come to the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. It is said to be the world’s largest spiritual gathering. This time, UP Police has made tremendous preparations for Mahakumbh. The formula is that even a bird cannot be killed. For this, 11 tethered drones and anti-drone systems have been deployed to strengthen aerial surveillance and crowd management in the vast area of ​​the fair.

How does a tethered drone work?
Tethered drones are connected to the ground station by cable. There is continuous power supply in it. There is no problem of battery discharge. Due to which they can continuously monitor for 24 hours. These drones can fly up to a height of 120 meters and cover a radius of 3 kilometers. Equipped with the latest thermal and IR cameras, these drones offer amazing zoom capability (36x optical and 8x digital) with 4K live footage both day and night.

Four tethered drones have been deployed by the security department of UP Police. The Traffic Directorate has deployed four drones to monitor the movement of vehicles. ATS has deployed three drones. Their objective is to prevent any kind of terrorist incident and the danger associated with it.

On the third day of Mahakumbh, UP Police has so far shot down 9 drones. Of these, 6 drones were caught on the day of Makar Sankranti itself. That day, the monks and nuns of the Akhara were also taking bath at the Sangam. A maximum of about three crore fifty lakh people took the holy dip on the same day. But the anti-drone system of UP Police was on alert. He captured all these 6 drones. One of these drones was trying to fly in the red zone. Any major incident can be carried out with drones. Chief of Security Police of UP Police and senior IPS officer Raghuveer Lal monitors this entire system. In Mahakumbh, work ranging from crowd management to counting of devotees is being done using drones.

Mahakumbh 2025: For which purposes drains have been installed?
Crowd Management: The crowd is monitored through thermal imaging and live video feed. Helps in regulating the movement of people at major entry points including railway stations.

Traffic Management: Drones provide real-time monitoring, which helps in controlling vehicles and crowds in areas where there is a lot of traffic.

Detecting Suspicious Activity: The data of professional criminals and people involved in terrorist activities has been destroyed. The drone takes their images and gives alerts. Tracks their movements.

Manpower Management: The data obtained from drones is used to improve the deployment of police personnel and VIP security.

The anti-drone system has been strengthened in the Mahakumbh of Prayagraj. Anti-drone systems are effective in neutralizing aerial threats. Apart from aerial surveillance, three anti-drone systems have been deployed at strategic locations to neutralize aerial threats. The two RF-based systems are capable of detecting enemy drones within a radius of 8 km and jamming their signals up to 2 km. A radar-based system can detect drones up to 15 km away and deactivate them within 3 km.
