ED sends notice to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s wife: Summoned to present evidence and records tomorrow in MUDA land scam case

Bengaluru11 minutes ago

ED has registered a case against Siddaramaiah, his wife, brother-in-law and others in the MUDA scam case.

ED has issued notice to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case. He has been called for questioning at ED’s Bengaluru office at 11 am on Tuesday. ED said that his presence is necessary to present evidence and records.

ED Additional Director Muralikannan said that investigation is being done against Parvati under the Money Laundering Act 2002. Parvathi is accused that the price of the land given to her in the upmarket of Mysore was more than the land acquired by MUDA.

MUDA is accused of giving properties to many people at low prices. These also include 14 sites given to Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati in posh areas in Mysore. These sites were given in exchange for his 3.16 acres of land in Kasare village, Kasaba Hobli, Mysore. 14 sites were allotted for Rs 3 lakh 24 thousand 700.

However, Parvati had no legal rights on this 3.16 acre land. This land was gifted to Parvati’s brother Mallikarjuna in 2010. MUDA had developed Devanur Stage 3 layout without acquiring this land.

A notice was issued by the Karnataka Governor’s Secretariat on August 8, 2024 regarding prosecution against Siddaramaiah.

Siddaramaiah had said- Wife got land in BJP government

On the allegations, Siddaramaiah had said – In 2014, when I was the CM, the wife had applied for compensation. I had told my wife not to apply for compensation as long as I am the CM. In 2020-21, when there was BJP government, compensation land was allotted to the wife. BJP is just trying to make false allegations against me.

ED had seized assets worth Rs 300 crores

On January 17, ED had seized immovable properties worth Rs 300 crore of CM Siddaramaiah and others. The investigating agency had said that this action has been taken in a money laundering case. Under this, 142 properties of these people were seized.

In the statement issued by ED it was said – the seized properties are registered in the names of different people. These people are working as real estate businessmen and agents.

Revelations in ED investigation:

  • Former MUDA Commissioner DB Natesh played a key role in the illegal allotment of these sites to Smt BM Parvathi.
  • Apart from these 14 sites, many other sites were also illegally allotted by MUDA as compensation to real estate traders.
  • These sites were later sold at high prices and huge amounts of undisclosed cash was raised.
  • This money was later laundered to make it appear to have come from a legitimate source.
  • The investigation also revealed that sites were allotted in the names of fake/dummy persons and influential people.

Other Disclosures:

  • Immovable properties, cash and sites belonging to the Chairman and Commissioner of MUDA involved in illegal transactions have been recovered.
  • The illegally obtained funds were used to purchase properties, luxury vehicles and through cooperative societies.
  • This money was also diverted in the name of relatives of former MUDA commissioner GT Dinesh Kumar.

What is MUDA case

In 1992, the urban development organization Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) took land from farmers to develop residential areas. In return, under MUDA’s incentive 50:50 scheme, land owners were given 50% of the site in the developed land or an alternative site.

What are the allegations against Siddaramaiah?

  • The Vijayanagar plot that Siddaramaiah’s wife received as compensation from MUDA is worth much more than her land in Kasare village.
  • Snemayi Krishna filed a complaint against Siddaramaiah. In this he has accused Siddaramaiah of forging documents to claim the MUDA site as family property.
  • From 1998 to 2023, Siddaramaiah held influential positions like Deputy CM or CM in Karnataka. Even though he was not directly involved in this scam, he used his power to help people close to him.
  • Mallikarjuna, brother of Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati, had illegally purchased 3 acres of denotified land in 2004. In 2004-05, Siddaramaiah was the Deputy CM in the Congress-JDS coalition government in Karnataka.
  • Under the scheme, the land of the land owners has been acquired by MUDA. They have been allotted alternative sites of higher value as compensation. Besides, real estate agents have also been given land under this scheme.
  • The land allotment scam was revealed by an RTI activist, saying that more than 6,000 sites have been allotted under the 50:50 scheme in the last four years.
  • BJP MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra said that this is a scam of Rs 3 thousand to Rs 4 thousand crore. Siddaramaiah’s family is included in this. Congress is keeping silence on this.
