ED’s action against builder Rajesh Sharma… Assets worth more than Rs 200 crore attached, said to be former Chief Secretary

The Income Tax Department has attached 20 properties worth Rs 200-250 crore of Rajesh Sharma of Trishul Construction. There is also suspicion of benami properties among them. Rs 10 crore in cash, 25 bank lockers and other documents were found in the raid. Registration has been banned. A mining businessman from Chhattisgarh is also being interrogated.

After raiding the places associated with Rajesh Sharma of Trishul Construction Company on December 18, the Income Tax Department has now attached more than 20 of his properties. Their price is being estimated between Rs 200 to 250 crores. This includes land, house, plot etc. Most of these properties are in the name of Sharma. About half a dozen properties are in the name of his wife Radhika.

The Income Tax Department suspects that Sharma had also purchased benami properties in the name of employees and close ones. However, the assessment of benami property is still underway in the Income Tax Department. Soon action may be taken regarding these properties also.

It is noteworthy that the Income Tax Department had raided the residences and offices of Trishul Construction Company, Ishan Builder and Quality Builder and people associated with them. During raids at 53 places in Bhopal, two in Indore and one place in Gwalior, Rs 10 crore in cash and 25 banks were found. It was revealed that the builders had purchased 110 acres of land in Sahara City on Hoshangabad Road in Bhopal. Documents of other immovable properties were found.

This raid was also in the news because Rajesh Sharma is said to be close to a former Chief Secretary. Land documents in the name of the former Chief Secretary and his wife were also found in the raid. The Income Tax Department had interrogated the concerned on suspicion of having a large number of benami properties. After this, action was taken to attach the property.

Letter written to registration headquarters to ban sale

Income Tax sources said that to ban the sale of Rajesh Sharma’s attached properties, a letter has been written to the Inspector General of Registration and Stamps and the Senior District Registrar of Bhopal asking them not to register the properties associated with Rajesh Sharma. This was done so that these properties could not be sold.

Mining businessman from Chhattisgarh also interrogated

The name of a mining businessman from Chhattisgarh also came up in the Income Tax raid. He is close to businessman Rajesh Sharma. Income tax officials suspect that he had purchased land in Chandanpura area in Bhopal by paying Rs 50 crore in cash. Later this land was sold to officials, film artists and businessmen. The Income Tax Department has interrogated the businessman.
