Starlink, which provides wireless internet services using Earth-orbiting satellites, has currently sought a license to offer satellite broadband services in India, and is expected to get the permit if it meets the prescribed conditions. This information was given by the Telecom Minister.
Starlink has been trying to enter the Indian market for years, and the company’s plans got a boost last month when the Indian government announced that spectrum for satellite broadband would not be auctioned, but would instead be administratively distributed. India’s Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has confirmed that Starlink is in the process of obtaining the necessary approvals, which will require it to assure the Indian government that the company will process and store all data locally in India, and Satellite signals will be encrypted and 100 percent secure.
