Champions Trophy-2025 Jos Buttler will be the captain of the England team.
The England Cricket Board (ECB) on Sunday announced the team for the Champions Trophy and India tour. All-rounder Ben Stokes’ name is not in the team. Batsman Joe Root has returned to the ODI team after almost a year.
The 15-member squad will be captained by Jos Buttler. The England team will tour India from 22 February to 12 January. The team will play 5 T-20 and 3 ODI matches against India in this tour. Whereas the schedule of Champions Trophy has not been announced yet.
Root is out of the team since 2023 World Cup Senior batsman Joe Root was dropped from the ODI team due to poor form in the 2023 World Cup held in India. The team was eliminated from the group stage in this tournament. Root scored 276 runs in this World Cup at an average of 30.66.
34-year-old Root is currently the number-1 batsman in Test. He scored 1556 runs with 6 centuries in the 2024 Test. During this period his average has been 55.57. In ODIs, Root had scored 666 runs at an average of around 29 in the 28 matches played since 2019.
Joe Root had scored 3 half centuries in the 2023 World Cup.
Test captain Ben Stokes not named England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes is not named in the team. Stokes was injured during the third Test match against New Zealand earlier this month. He has suffered a hamstring injury. In this match, England was defeated by Kiwis by 423 runs.
All-rounder Ben Stokes played his last ODI match against Pakistan in November 2023.
First major tournament for Brendon McCullum The Champions Trophy will be the first major tournament in the white ball format for England head coach Brendon McCullum. He will be on the white ball tour of India for the first time as head coach. Rehan Ahmed has been selected in the team only for the T20 series against India. Whereas Joe Root will only be a part of the ODI team.
Fast bowlers of Archer, Wood and Attinckson team Joffra Archer, who bowls at a speed of 150, has returned to the team after injury. Whereas Mark Wood was not a part of the Test series with New Zealand due to injury. His name is also in the team.
Bowling all-rounder Gus Attinckson, who has not played ODI since December 2023, has also returned to the team. Whereas fast bowlers Braydon Carse and Saqib Mahmood have been given a chance in the team due to their excellent form.
Mark Wood and Joffra Archer will return to the team after injury.
All-rounder Sam Curran out of the team There is no place in the team for all-rounder Sam Curran, who will win the T20 World Cup in 2022. Tall forward Reece Topley has also been sidelined after a string of injuries.
Whereas fast bowler Matthew Potts has also not been included in the team. Leg spinner Adil Rashid has been named in the squad as England’s leading spinner. To support him, the team has part-time spinners Root, Liam Livingston and Jacob Bethel.
