By -election in Erode, Tamil Nadu, voting continues
Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, the polling stations of the polling constituency for the Erode East Assembly by -election have started at 7 am today and will continue till 6 pm. District Election Officer and Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara said that on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) all arrangements have been made for the smooth polling operations and voters have been urged to use their democratic rights without any hassle.

Officials said that due to the cold, people did not come in large numbers at the beginning of voting, but later more voters are expected to come in the day.
District Magistrate Raja Gopal Sunkara was among the early voters to vote.
A total of 46 candidates, including 44 Independents, are in the fray, although the battle is between the ruling DMK and actor-consignment Seaman between Tamiller Kachi (NTK).
DMK has fielded former MLA VC Chandrakumar while MK Sitalakshmi is the choice of NTK.
By -elections are being held on this seat due to the death of Congress MLA EVKS Ilangovan.
The main opposition party AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have announced to boycott the by -election.
Holiday has been announced
A holiday has been declared in educational institutions, government and private organizations in the constituency to facilitate voting. Additionally, the voters of constituency working in the district and surrounding districts are entitled to the sacred holiday on Wednesday. Nine polling stations are sensitive
Raja Gopal Sunakara said that, voting will be held in a total of 237 booths, out of which more than nine booths were identified with additional security personnel. These polling stations will monitor the micro observer polling process and cameras have been installed for monitoring round the clock.
Erode constituency has 2,27,546 voters. Sunakara said, “Voters can use one of the 12 types of documents for voting.” He said that necessary facilities have been arranged at all polling stations. The collector said that nine sensitive polling stations have been identified and webcasting will be done at all polling stations.
Regarding the security system, he said that 1,500 police personnel and three companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were deployed at the booths. So far a total of 57 complaints related to election have been received, on which necessary action has been taken.
