Experts working in the field of environment will gather in Bhopal on Wednesday to make a strong Madhya Pradesh by taking advantage of the opportunities in carbon markets. WRI India in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Environment Planning and Coordination Organization (EPCO) is organizing a conference titled Strengthening Madhya Pradesh to leverage the benefits and opportunities from carbon markets at Court Yard by Marriott Bhopal on Wednesday.
The program will bring together key stakeholders from government, private sector, standard-setting bodies, project developers, think tanks and civil society for capacity building on various aspects of carbon markets.
It will focus on identifying opportunities to develop potential projects that can be leveraged to earn carbon finance and implement strong climate strategies in Madhya Pradesh.

The workshop included ‘Global Status of New Architecture of Carbon Markets’, ‘Landscape of Domestic Carbon Market in India’, ‘Strategies for Integrating Carbon Finance through Carbon Markets to Meet Climate and Development Priorities of Madhya Pradesh’ The topic will be discussed.
Leading state taking action on climate
Madhya Pradesh has been a leading state in taking climate related steps while giving impetus to economic development. However, strong climate action will require multiple sources of investment. By integrating carbon market mechanisms into its development strategies, states can achieve the dual goals of contributing to sustainable economic growth and national and global climate action.

In the workshop, Additional Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Renewable Energy Department Manu Srivastava, Principal Secretary and Director General EPCO Navneet Mohan Kothari, Executive Director of EPCO Uma Maheshwari, SKMCCC EPCO Coordinator Lokendra Thakkar, Executive Program Director of WRI India Ulka Kelkar, Associate of CEF, WRI India. Program director Subrata Chakraborty and other subject experts will be the keynote speakers.
