In this season of spring, in many areas of North India, when people were going to pack their quilt-cum, jacket-sweater back that the cold season suddenly returned. The coolness in the winds came in such a way that people have to wear warm clothes again. The cold in the air of Delhi-NCR increased a lot. In the last few days, the weather has taken the angel. He realized the return of winter again. How long can this winter live, because suddenly it returned, when the weather of February was historically warm. What kind of weather are we going to see in the coming days. What will the summer of this time feed? We will talk about all this.
The weather has cooled down due to sudden snow and rain in the high mountainous areas of North India. The mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have received snowfall in the last day of February and the first week of March. Due to this, roads were closed in many places. In some areas, due to heavy snowfall, incidents of avalanche and landslides were also seen. Due to heavy snowfall, a landslide occurred due to landslides at a labor camp of Border Road Organization, just 500 meters from Mannath near Badrinath. 54 laborers were buried in snow due to avalanche. After the rescue operation that lasted about sixty hours, 46 out of 54 workers were rescued. But eight laborers died. It is clear from this incident of avalanche that in which a few days there was heavy snow in the high mountainous areas. The effect of snowfall in the mountainous areas is also feeling very much in the lower hilly areas and plains.
The weather will change again after 6 March
There has been a decrease in temperature and cold winds are running in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and many areas of Uttar Pradesh. However, during the day, the heat of the sun kept trying to fight the coolness of the winds. But the nights have become cold again. The Meteorological Department estimates that after March 6, the weather will change again and winter will decrease. According to Skymet Weather, there will be light to normal rain and snowfall in the western Himalayan areas in the next 24 hours. After this, the temperature will start increasing. We asked meteorologist Dr. Anand Sharma that when February was hot, why did the cold weather return suddenly in March.
Why winter returned in March? What did the meteorologist say?
Meteorologist Dr. Anand Sharma said that after being exceptionally hot in February, when people in North India felt that the time to keep warm clothes came, the winter returned in the beginning of March. Anand Sharma said that there are two western disturbances i.e. Western disturbances, one after the other due to sudden changes in the weather and increasing cold. Western disturbance is a weather system that comes towards the Indian subcontinent with ice and rain with it. Western disturbances are the low pressure clouds that rise in winter that rise from the Mediterranean Sea, Caspian Sea and Black Sea and cause rains and snowfall across the Himalayas. The western disturbance in the Indian subcontinent extends to South East Nepal and North Bangladesh.
Western disturbance time also changed
Their arrival from December to the months of March is normal. Western disturbances are special for us because they cause snowfall in the Himalayas in winter and when this ice melts in summer, water becomes a guarantee of water for us in those days of summer. However, in the last few years, it has been seen that the time of western disturbance has also changed. It has decreased in January, February and March has even increased in April. It has also been seen that winters are now coming late before and their time period is also shrinking.
Farmers the most impact on unseasonal rain and snowfall
A sudden difference in temperature of sudden weather or unseasonal rain and snowfall is the most impact on our farmers, whose livelihood is based on farming. These days the rabi crops are in the fields. Wheat is having earrings. This season is when crops like barley, oats, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage, onions, sunflowers, mustard are blooming in the fields. In the mountainous areas, flowers are going to come in apples these days. Flowers also begin to flow in fruit trees like peach, apricot, pear. In such a situation, sudden rain and snowfall are sure to affect them. In such a situation, the advice of meteorologists for farmers becomes quite special.
According to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service i.e. February, February 2024 of last year, February 2024, broke the average heat record worldwide and it was recorded till date. The hottest month of February was. According to C3S, February 2024 was 1.8 degrees warm than the former industrial average. More than the limit of one and a half degrees fixed in the Paris Agreement. But this year the figures of January have come and have broken all the old records. According to C3S, January 2025 was the hottest January till date. 0.79 degrees higher than the average of 1991 to 2020. If you look at the pre -industrial level average temperature, January 2025 was 1.75 degrees warm.
This was the 18th month in the last 19 months when the global average temperature was more than 1.5 degrees warm than the pre -industrial average, which was set the first limit of the Paris Agreement. How much has been played with the limit of the Paris Agreement. We will talk on this too. Whenever it comes to climate change, once a word comes out –Pre -Industrial Average Temperature i.e. pre -industrial average temperature. Without understanding this, the seriousness of the change in climate change cannot be assessed.
Pre -industrial average temperature means the global average temperature of the round between 1850 and 1900. Today it is considered baseline for changes in temperature. This 50 -year phase has been chosen because during this time there was rapid industrialization in the world. The use of fossil fuel such as coal, oil, etc. increased the greenhouse very rapidly, which had more impact on the climate before 1850. That is why today’s temperature is assessed by considering this average temperature as the basis and it is estimated that due to our activities, the climate is changed or changing.
The increasing average temperature of the earth can affect us due to climate change. Because of this, there are unseasonal changes. Summer is getting hot. If there may be drought somewhere during the rainy days, there can be excess rainfall. Winters are shrinking due to this, the pattern of cyclonic storms has also been affected. To reduce the damage from this, it is necessary to reduce the speed of climate change.
To deal with this, climate change conferences take place every year in one country of Duniya. In this direction, the Climate Change conference of the United Nations held in Paris, the capital of France in 2015, was historic. The biggest result of the meeting was that there was an opinion among all the countries of the world that the average temperature of the world should be limited to one and a half degrees above the pre -industrial average and not allowed to increase more than 2 degrees in any case.
For this, all countries will have to reduce the emission of their greenhouse gases which can be done only when fossil fuel, oil and gas consumption is minimized. All countries make yourself flexible to deal with the impact of climate change, make necessary changes in your policies. All countries should explain in a transparent manner what steps they have taken to reduce climate change. For this, nationally determined contributions i.e. ‘national level contribution’, which was briefly called NDC, was decided under which countries handed over their plans to deal with climate change to the United Nations. In this, it was told that how the country will reduce green house gases, consider it a promise of leadership of every country to deal with climate change.
The country updates its NDC every five years. It is reviewed how much the promise is implemented and how much is left. So the Paris Agreement set a big goal to let the world be better and lived. The country moved towards clean energy. But it does not seem that it has been achieved in this direction as it should have been. An example of this is Copernicus climate change service i.e. results of research of C3S.
According to C3S, last year 2024 was the hottest year in the world. That is, since the record started to be kept, the hottest year. This was the first calendar year when the global average temperature went above one and a half degrees above the pre -industrial average. The average of last year did not break the record, but every month of the previous year was warm more than the same month of all years. The C3S analyzes the data of laboratories of different countries of the world and analyzes them and then reaches the result. The biggest reason behind the heat of 2024 is the increase of temperature due to human reasons. Apart from this, seasonal procedures like El Nino were also a reason for the last year remaining hot. The results of the C3S have also revealed that every year of the last ten years i.e. from 2015 to 2024, it was one of the 10 hottest years of every year till date.
China emissions the most singing house gases
America comes at the top in terms of spreading the most pollution. But for the last several years, China has taken its place. According to the Climate Action Tracker, in the year 2022, China emitted the most gheen house gases. China alone did 30% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions. After that, America is in second place and India in third place and fourth place is the European Union. Then comes the number of Russia, Japan, Brazil and other countries. The 20 most pollution countries in the world are responsible for 83% of the total pollution of the world.
If you look at the per capita green house emission, then these twenty countries are at the forefront in the world. According to Climate Action Tracker, Saudi Arabia was at the forefront in 2022, followed by Australia, America, Canada. This means that these countries are spreading the most pollution per person. China tops the total pollution. But due to large population, its per capita pollution is reduced. However, it is still very high with 10 tons. In 2022, China had the highest population in the world and now India has taken that place. Due to the large population, India’s per capita greenhouse gas emissions are quite low i.e. only 2.5 tonnes, which is almost a quarter of China.
The special thing in the case of developing countries like China and India is that the possibilities of development and industrialization are very high in front of them, so their emissions will increase, while developed countries have already made a lot of progress in this matter. This is the reason that the responsibilities of developed countries in case of dealing with climate change increases. But America is running away from this responsibility. Donald Trump has become the President of America for the second time. After becoming President in the first round, he had excluded America from the responsibilities of the Paris Agreement, which brought the US to the Paris Agreement again. But if Trump became America for the second time, then he separated his country from the responsibilities under the Paris Agreement.
Meteorologist Dr. Anand Sharma said that the bigger responsibility he is running on. It is a matter of great concern for the world getting hot. Well, let’s see how these summer can be.
