Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis supported the demand for the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb from Khulabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

The Chief Minister said- We all want the same, but you have to do it under the purview of law, because it is a protected place. A few years ago, during the Congress rule, the site was kept under the patronage of ASI.

In fact, BJP’s Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosle, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, demanded that the Aurangzeb grave be demolished. He said what is needed. Sending a JCB machine and dropped his grave, he was a thief and a robber.

He had said that people who pay tribute to Aurangzeb’s grave can be his future. They should take that grave to their home, but Aurangzeb’s glorification will no longer be tolerated.

He had demanded that strict action should be taken against those who made wrong statements about Shahaji Chhatrapati Maharaj, Rajmata brother -in -law Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

If he had been against Hindus, 34% Hindus would not have been with him. During his reign, India was called a golden bird. It should not be seen from Hindu-Muslim angle.

The SP MLA had further said- Aurangzeb ruled 52 years and if he had really converted Hindus into Muslims, then imagine how many Hindus would have changed. When Mangal Pandey started the fight in the 1857 rebellion, it was first supported by Muslim Bahadur Shah Zafar.

At the same time, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde had opposed the statement and said that Abu Azmi should be tried for treason.

Who is Abu Azmi Abu Azmi is a resident of Azamgarh in UP. He is an SP MLA in Maharashtra. In the last election, Abu Azmi won the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar seat in Maharashtra. In 1995, the SP won 2 seats by Abu Azmi’s leadership. In 2004, Abu Azmi contested the assembly elections for the first time but suffered defeat. Abu, who was a Rajya Sabha member from SP from 2002 to 2008, contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 and lost to Gurudas Kamat of the Congress Party. Between 2009 and 2024, Abu Mankhurd has won 3 times from Shivaji Nagar.

Aurangzeb died in 1707 at the age of 87. He is buried in Khuldabad, 25 km from Aurangabad, where his wife’s tomb ‘Bibi Ka Tomb’ is located. In his will, Aurangzeb expressed his wish to be buried in Khuldabad. Where his guru, Sufi saint Syed Zainuddin was buried. This tomb is located in the premises of Syed Zainuddin. He also directed that he should be buried in a simple open air grave. Later, the Nizam of Hyderabad put a marble grill around the mausoleum at the request of the then Viceroy Lord Curzon of India.
