Farmer leader Dallewal felt dizzy, vomited; Can’t even speak: SKM

Chandigarh:

Punjab’s farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, 70, who is on a fast unto death for various demands of farmers, is feeling dizzy and vomiting. They are not even able to speak. Doctors and agitating farmers gave this information on Sunday, the 41st day of their hunger strike.

Dallewal has refused to take the medical aid being provided by the Punjab government following the directions of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is going to hear the contempt petition against the state Chief Secretary and DGP in this case on Monday.

Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh and former Deputy Inspector General Narinder Bhargava met Dallewal at Khanauri border on Sunday, but nothing could be achieved.

Dallewal, convener of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), has been on an indefinite hunger strike at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana since November 26 last year demanding various demands of farmers, including legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) for crops. .

Regarding Dallewal’s health, Dr Avtar Singh, part of the team of NGO ‘5 Rivers Heart Association’, said on Sunday that his blood pressure had fluctuated during the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ in Khanauri the previous day. The doctor said, ‘When he was being taken back to his tent, he started feeling dizzy and started vomiting.’

To address the farmers, Dallewal was brought on the stage with the help of a stretcher. In his more than 11-minute address, Dallewal tried to convey the message that the welfare of farmers is more important than their lives.

SKM (non-political) said in a statement on Sunday that Dallewal had vomited several times since Saturday. He said, ‘He is not even able to speak today. Even if Dallewal ends his hunger strike, there is a danger that all his organs will not be able to function 100 percent.’ He said that Dallewal could not stand properly, hence his weight could not be measured correctly.

In the last several days, the Punjab government, through officials, made several attempts to convince Dallewal to seek medical help even if he did not want to break his fast, but he refused.

The Supreme Court bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotishwar Singh will on Monday hear a contempt petition against the Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, alleging non-compliance of orders to provide medical aid to Dallewal.

The Punjab government has already made it clear that it has no intention of removing Dallewal from the current protest site. Farmer leaders had earlier said that Dallewal was not taking anything except water during the fast.

Meanwhile, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said on Sunday that farmers will celebrate the Gurpurab of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh at the Shambhu border on Monday.
