Government said- will increase testing labs as a precaution The government said India has a robust surveillance system for influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) for influenza through ICMR and IDSP.

Data from both the agencies show that there has been no unusual increase in ILI and SARI cases.

As a precautionary measure, ICMR will increase the number of labs testing for HMPV and will monitor HMPV cases throughout the year.

Children under 2 years of age are most affected HMPV is an RNA virus. When infected with the virus, patients show symptoms like cold and Covid-19. Its biggest impact is being seen on small children. Among these, children below 2 years of age are most affected.

According to China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), its symptoms include cough, fever, nasal congestion and wheezing in the throat. Apart from HMPV, cases of Influenza A, Mycoplasma Pneumonia and Covid-19 are also being reported. The number of its patients has increased continuously.

According to Reuters, the highest number of cases of respiratory problems have been reported between 16 and 25 December.

Claim- Emergency declared in many places in China In a post made on social media, posting photos of patients, it has been claimed that China has declared emergency in many places after the spread of the virus. According to the claim, crowding in hospitals and cremation grounds is increasing.

However, no such information has been given by China. According to the report of The Star, CDC has said that the risk of infection is higher in patients already suffering from diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary.

The risk of spreading the virus through coughing and sneezing is high. If the effect of the virus is severe, it can also cause bronchitis and pneumonia. According to Reuters, China is also testing a surveillance system to deal with this.

Once infected, its effects are visible in 3 to 5 days.

Identified for the first time in 2001 The HMPV virus was first identified in 2001. A Dutch researcher had detected this virus in samples of children suffering from respiratory disease. However, this virus has been present for the last 6 decades.

This virus is present in the environment in all types of seasons, but the risk of its spread is highest in winter.

DGHS said- India need not worry

DGHS Director Dr. Atul Goyal said that there is no need to worry about this virus. There is an outbreak of metapneumovirus in China and it is serious, but here metapneumovirus is a normal respiratory virus.

Dr. Goyal said that it is a cold like disease or some people may have flu like symptoms. Especially in the elderly and children below 1 year of age, but this is not such a serious disease that there is a need to worry too much.

Goyal said that respiratory virus infections occur during winter. Our hospitals and institutions are prepared to handle this. There is availability of beds and oxygen. It does not require any specific medicines because there is no specific antiviral drug against it.

Corona virus spread from China in 2019 The first case of Covid-19 was found in Wuhan city of China in 2019. It was then thought to be a mysterious pneumonia. It was spread by SARS-CoV-2 virus (Corona virus).

After this this virus spread rapidly in the world. On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization declared it a global pandemic.

More than 70 crore cases of Covid were recorded worldwide. Apart from this, more than 70 lakh deaths were also recorded.
