The Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh are working on various aspects for the promotion of Mahakumbh Mela being held from 13 January to 26 February in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that ministries and other institutions have taken several steps to attract tourists during the Mahakumbh Mela 2025.
The Union Ministry of Tourism has set up an ‘Incredible India Pavilion’ in the fair area in Prayagraj, where tourists, media, influencers and foreigners are provided information related to Mahakumbh. Apart from this, digital brochures giving information about various tour packages, flights and housing options of Mahakumbh have also been prepared. A dedicated ‘Mahakumbh Tourist Infoline’ (1800111363) has also been started for the convenience of tourists.
He informed that social media handles of the Union Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and other government departments are also being used for the promotion of Kumbh Mela. This remedy makes not only the countrymen but also foreign tourists aware of the information and attraction of Mahakumbh Mela. More than 13,000 trains are being operated for Mahakumbh Mela 2025, it also includes 3,000 special trains. Apart from this, ring rail service connecting Prayagraj to other major religious places like Ayodhya, Varanasi and Chitrakoot has also been introduced, which runs daily during the fair period.
Shekhawat said that a cultural village ‘Kalagram’ has been established in Sector-7 of Prayagraj Mahakumbh region, which is run by the North Central Regional Cultural Center. The major attractions in Kalagram are 635 feet wide and 54 feet high main entrance, which shows the story of 12 Jyotirlingas and Lord Shiva consuming Halahal. It also has a platform 104 feet wide and 72 feet deep, the theme of which is ‘Char Dham’. In addition, 14,632 artists will perform on various forums, and through the ‘Anubhut Mandapam’, the descent from the Ganges to the Earth will be displayed as a 360 degree immersive experience.
He further informed that apart from satvic food by various zonal cultural centers in Kalagram, local cuisine of Prayagraj is also being served. In addition, 98 artisans in culture courtyards are performing and selling traditional Indian handicrafts and hand -made clothes. During the Mahakumbh Mela, on 1 February, an 118 -member delegation, including the mission heads of 77 countries, took a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam. The Ministry of Culture, along with the Department of Culture and Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, is organizing cultural programs by including 15,000 artists on various forums of Mahakumbh.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Mahakumbh Mela 2025 is not only of religious importance, but it is an important opportunity to promote India’s cultural heritage and tourism industry. The aim of the government is to provide religious and cultural experiences not only to the countrymen through Mahakumbh, but foreign tourists should also be introduced to the rich cultural heritage of India.
