The issue of expensive food at all the airports of the country has been a cause of trouble for the passengers for a long time. In the winter session of Parliament, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha had strongly raised this issue and highlighted the problem of water, tea and snacks being available at expensive prices at airports. The result of his efforts was that now the government has taken cognizance of this issue and planned to start “Udaan Yatri Café”. It will be started from Kolkata Airport, where food will be provided at affordable rates.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has announced that “Udan Yatri Café” will be launched at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. However, this will be a pilot project, which will later be implemented at other airports of the Airport Authority of India (AAI). In this cafe, water bottles, tea, coffee and snacks will be available at reasonable prices, which will provide a lot of relief to the passengers.

MP Raghav Chadha expressed happiness over this and called it a positive step. He said, “Finally the government has listened to the call of the general public. Even though it has started from Kolkata Airport, but they are hopeful that it will soon be implemented in other airports of the country as well. After which the people of our country traveling by air will “Citizens will not have to spend Rs 100-250 for water, tea or coffee at airports.”

The AAP MP further said, “This is inconvenient for common passengers. The government should ensure that passengers get better facilities at a reasonable price.” Raising the issue of expensive food at airports in Parliament, AAP MP Raghav Chadha had said, “Passengers have to face a lot of trouble at the country’s airports due to expensive food and poor management. A bottle of water at airports costs Rs 100.” One has to spend Rs 200-250 for a cup of tea. Can’t the government start cheap and affordable canteens at airports?

When MP Raghav Chadha strongly raised this voice of the common man in the Parliament, people on social media appreciated his initiative and called it the voice of the heart of the common people. His speech garnered a lot of headlines on social media platforms. Even Konchok Stanjin, counselor of Chushul in Ladakh, bordering China, supported his point and wrote on his We remain cut off from the rest. Air connectivity is our only option, yet affordable fares remain a distant dream.”
