The results of the local body elections in Gujarat did not surprise anyone. The results remain as expected. The BJP has won unilaterally, winning 1608 seats out of 2171 seats. These seats are in the municipal bodies and district-taluka panchayats of the state. These elections were held in 66 Nagar Panchayats of the state. By -elections were also held in two. The special thing in these results has been that a large number of Muslims have won on the BJP ticket. The BJP has also won in those districts where Muslims affect a large number of more results. The Congress has suffered a deep setback in this election. AIMIM was also trying to become a party of Muslims in the local body elections of Gujarat. But he got only one seat.
BJP’s penetration in Muslims
Earlier, local body elections were held in 2018. In it, 46 Muslims won on BJP ticket. This year 76 Muslims have won on BJP ticket. He gave tickets to 103 Muslims. In this election, Muslims have won on BJP tickets in districts like Patan, Kheda, Panchmahal and Junagadh. In the last election, no Muslim candidate was able to win on BJP ticket in these districts. This time there will be nine in three nagar panchayats of Kheda district, five in Radhanpur in Patan district, six in Volthal Nagar Panchayat of Junagadh, five in two Nagar Panchayats of Panchmahal district.
The BJP fielded 103 Muslim candidates, out of which 73 have won.
The number of Muslims won by fighting tickets or independents of other parties not only on BJP tickets has increased in Gujarat. In the 2018 elections, 252 Muslims won elections. At the same time, a total of 275 Muslims have won this year’s election. BJP accounts for about 28 percent of the Muslims won in the local body elections. This time too, most Muslims live on Congress tickets. Its share in this victory is 39 percent, while the Aam Aadmi Party holds about five percent in this victory. 13 Muslims have won elections on his ticket. It also includes Salaya Nagar Panchayat of Jamnagar, where 11 AAP Muslim candidates have won. BJP has not won a single seat in this panchayat.
BJP also won where the dargahs were broken
Muslim candidates of BJP have also won those seats in Gir Somnath and Jamnagar districts, where large scale action has been taken to make government land encroachment free. Some people are calling it action against a particular community. People are describing a dargah broken there as hundreds of years old.
Half of Congress’s strength is left
In the 2018 elections, Congress won 632 out of 2064 seats. But in this election, she could win only 252 seats. In the 2018 election, 133 Muslims won on a Congress ticket. But this time only 109 have been won. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM was also in the fray in this election. But he could not get the expected success. He fielded candidates for 72 seats. But only one seat was won. He has got success in a seat of Upaleta Taluka Panchayat in Rajkot district. The special thing has been that 12 out of 71 MIM candidates were Muslims.
