Naiduniya Representative, Indore (GST Portal Failure). The poor condition of the GST portal could not be repaired even in eight years and was visible even on the last day of the year. The year 2024 also ended with the GST network stalled. Generation of e-way bills and e-invoices on GST network stopped from Tuesday afternoon.
The sluggish online system went down at 2:30. This was the status of the portal until the calendar changed. At the end of the month and year, the traders who were busy in completing the accounts and orders kept getting worried. In the year 2024 itself, the government had made e-invoice mandatory for traders with turnover of more than Rs 5 crore.
Bill will have to be made through network only
That means they cannot sell and supply merchandise through hand drawn bills. Bill will have to be generated through GST portal and network only. Along with this, e-way bill is also already mandatory for transportation of goods of GST registered traders. This is also done through the portal itself.
On December 31, the e-invoice and e-way bill system came to a standstill. Traders called tax professionals for resolution. After this, traders and tax consultants started sending online complaints, emails and posts on social media to the GST Network and GST Council.
An alternative link was released
Meanwhile the business hours also ended. Due to non-payment of bills, trucks and vehicles ready to transport goods could not leave. At night, GST posted on social media X that it had issued an alternative link, however, even that continued to cause problems in bill generation.
Offices open overnight for returns
Meanwhile, there is also difficulty in filing the annual return of GST. This time one month less has been given to file the annual return 9-C. Meanwhile, due to change in format the figures are also mismatching. Even after complaints, the return format was not changed.
The date ended on 31st December. Indore businessmen along with Tax Law Bar Association and Commercial Tax Practitioners Association sent a memorandum to the Finance Minister demanding extension of the date of filing returns till January 31.
Although no relief was announced, the offices of chartered accountants and tax consultants remained open throughout the night of 30th and till midnight of 31st December and kept trying to file returns somehow.
