In the final of the World Chess Championship on Thursday, the match between D Gukesh and Ding Liren of China ended in a draw on King vs King. This was the 9th round match. In the match played on Thursday night, both the players agreed on a draw after 54 moves.
32-year-old Chinese Grand Master Liren won the first match, while 18-year-old Indian Grand Master Gukesh won the third match. The second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth games were draws. This is the sixth consecutive game and the seventh overall game of the match, in which both the players shared points. After this draw, both the players have equal 4.5 points. Which is three points less than the 7.5 points required to win the championship.
There is a rest day on Friday after which both the players will resume the competition on Saturday. Now only 5 matches are left in the championship with a prize money of 25 lakh dollars. If the score remains tied after 14 rounds, there will be matches under ‘Faster Time Control’ to decide the winner.
What is King Vs King Draw? When during a chess match only the kings of both players remain on the chess board, it is called a king versus king draw. In such a situation, there are no chances for any one player to win.
