The dispute still continues between Congress, BJP and the Central Government regarding the memorial of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Congress alleges that the Central Government did not give the respect that should be given to the funeral and memorial of the former Prime Minister as per his stature.
After the Home Ministry, BJP President and senior party leaders, Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri gave a statement on this on Sunday. Puri said- Congress is openly spreading lies regarding the memorial of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. The Congress President wrote a letter to the government demanding the construction of a special memorial. The Home Ministry accepted Kharge’s demand.
Puri said- There is a place of unity in Delhi. Here, memorials of former Prime Ministers and former Presidents have been built at 7 out of 9 sites. There are 2 spaces vacant for the memorial. Congress has demanded to make a special memorial. The government has approved it, but the process will take time. Trust will have to be built, only that will build the memorial. Same thing happened during Vajpayee ji’s time also.
Hardeep Puri said- it was raining at the time of his death Hardeep Puri said that Congress’s lies will be caught. It was raining heavily when Manmohan Singh died. It was raining the next day also. The Meteorological Department said that December received the highest rainfall in 27 years.
His mortal remains were wrapped in the tricolor and cremated with full state and military honors. Seven days of state mourning was declared until January 1, 2025. During this mourning period, the national flag will remain at half-mast at all Indian Missions/High Commissions across the country and abroad. Space will be allotted for his memorial.
On 29 December, Manmohan Singh’s ashes were floated at Yamuna Ghat in New Delhi. During this time no Congress leader was present there. Pawan Kheda said that Congress wanted to give privacy to Dr. Singh’s family. That’s why no leader reached there.

- Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinet Said that even in this hour of mourning, the BJP government could not give respect to Sardar Manmohan Singh. - Congress leader Pawan Kheda Said that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had also offered land from Shakti Sthal. All he wanted was that Dr. Manmohan Singh’s funeral should take place at a place where his memorial could be built. Question should be asked to BJP that why these people were not ready even after being offered a place from Shakti Sthal?

December 27: Kharge had asked for land for the memorial. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the evening of 27 December. It was said that a memorial should be built wherever Dr. Singh’s last rites take place. According to Congress sources, Dr. Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur also wanted the same. However, the Home Ministry got the last rites performed at Nigambodh Ghat.
28 December: BJP said- land has been allotted On Congress’s allegation of not giving land for Manmohan Singh’s memorial, BJP President JP Nadda said on December 28 – Space has been allotted for Dr. Singh’s memorial. His family has also been informed about this. However, Nadda did not tell where the land was given.

Manmohan is the first Sikh PM of the country, the fourth leader to hold this post for the longest period. Dr. Manmohan Singh died on the night of 26 December. He was 92 years old. He was ill since a long time. After fainting at home, he was brought to Delhi AIIMS at 8:06 pm. According to the hospital bulletin, he breathed his last at 9:51 pm.
Manmohan Singh became the 14th Prime Minister of the country in 2004. He had completed two terms on this post till May 2014. He was the country’s first Sikh and fourth longest serving Prime Minister.
