As a result of this accident, the passenger boat named Neelkamal capsized. There were a total of 110 people on this boat, out of which 13 have died and many have been seriously injured.
Confirming the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “The accident occurred after the boat Neelkamal collided with a naval ship near Butcher Island near Mumbai. “So far 13 people have lost their lives in this accident, while 101 people have been evacuated safely.”
2. Naval ship went out of control
After receiving further information about the incident, it emerged that an Indian Navy ship was conducting engine testing in Mumbai Harbour. During this time, there was a malfunction in the engine of the ship, due to which it became uncontrollable and collided with the Neelkamal boat. Due to this collision the boat overturned and many people fell into the sea. After the accident, the Navy and Coast Guard immediately started rescue operations.
3. 4 helicopters and 11 crafts engaged in rescue operations
Immediately after the accident, the Indian Navy put its full force into the rescue operation. Four naval helicopters, 11 naval craft, one coast guard boat and three marine police craft were dispatched to the accident site. In this operation, all resources were deployed to get the people in the boat out of the water.
Meanwhile, after the incident the injured were sent to St. George Hospital. Hospital Superintendent Vinayak Savardekar informed the media that the condition of most of the injured was stable as they were wearing life jackets. According to him, the condition of those who were admitted to the hospital is not serious.

President Draupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over this horrific accident in Mumbai. The President tweeted, “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the accident between a passenger ferry and an Indian Naval craft near Mumbai Harbour. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I wish success in the rescue and relief operations.”
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh will be given by the state government.
5. Declaration of Compensation
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced compensation for the families of those killed in this accident. The Chief Minister said that the families whose members died in this accident will be provided an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Apart from this, treatment of injured people will be provided free of cost.
